I have been assigned the task of sorting 4 tyres for the mother in law.
As I am lucky to have a good mother in law I want to do the best I can.
Her car is a Mazda 6 and she is 79 years old.
The car is mostly used for local trips with the odd trip to Cobram(80 kays)
She does not need to spend megabucks on sports tyres, however I do not want to get her rubbish.
I have rung around looking for deals and this is what I have come up with.
All the below are buy four and pay for three deals.
Bridgestone Tyres.
Firestone tyres $390 plus $55 for alignment.
Bob Jane.
Zeon tyre, which they say are made by Bridgstone. $360 Alin $55
Yokahoma $417. Salesman reckons that these are more a sports tyre whith good grip and will not last as long. Probably not suited to an 80 year old.
Goodyear
Nexin $390 Alin $95
Tyrepower.
Toyo C100 $450 Alignment $88
They also offer with a 4 tyre purchase that every 10,000 km you can have
a rotation, balance and alignment for $49, which I reckon is a good deal.
Although the most expensive, I am leaning towards Tyrepower's Toyo's.
What are others thoughts.
And if you know of another deal with a brand you think are good, put it up

SubscriberDave, i just had some Supercats in 185/65/14 fitted to my wifes pulsar.
Cost me $265 for 4 fitted on a special where the 4th tyre was only $10, there are a few others with similar specials like Hankook, Bridgestone and Kmart stores.

A rebadged Supercat from memory, the ones that I saw had exactly the same tread pattern as my cats. I had the cats on all my cars until recently and they were quite good, particularly in the wet.
Back years ago they were the Bob Jane Outa-rounder. Never could balance one without a heap of lead...
Certainly weren't Steel Cats.

Look at Maxxis. I've only had good experience with them and only see the odd bad review (too noisy for some).

I can't see myself buying firestones again, but that was a long time ago. We have bought plenty of Bridgestones, great tyre but they wear the edges, Yokohama wear really quickly, like really quickly. Actually the tyre that has really impressed me are the Michelin Pilots that my Subi runs (WRX rims), and they are quiet, grip well in the wet and dry, but for your purposes they are lasting really really well by a long shot and they roll really well especially with extra air in them. They're also a comfy tyre and pots holes and my gravel driveway haven't destroyed them (touch wood). Not sure of the cost, but even if a bit more they are proving to be really good value. Reminds me of the factory D2 Michelin tyres that people would get 100,000km from, but these are a significant;y better car tyre.
