    1HD tojo crap performance

    Howdy.
Let me stop you before you start, no 'it's a Toyota they're all crap' comments please
We have a pair of 1HD tojo utes at work, in addition to our 3 1VD V8s.
One of the 1HDs is fine, pulls like a train, loaded or unloaded.
The other is fine empty but once you put a load on it it's a slug. I towed 50 bales of straw in a box trailer today and I was down to third gear up minor hills trying to maintain 70kmh and failing, the other 1HD charges up hills in 5th gear with trailers full of drill core and scrap metal, much heavier than today's load. Even unloaded with just the trailer it was noticeably bad.
Vehicle is serviced every 5-8k kms, well maintained, and has at some point had a top end rebuild. 276k on the odo.
    Suggestions please
    Cheers

Im just going to spit out some ideas without knowing what you've already checked..
Air filter, air hose (collapsing), fuel filter, fuel strainer in tank, compression, dragging handbrake/footbrakes, injector pump inlet strainer, exhaust blockage.

Egr valve stuck open is my best guess. They can also go into limp mode with overboost due to wastegate actuator pipe splitting. Have you put a boost gauge on it? And how many kms since it had a set of injectors? It is also possible to mistime them has it had a timing belt recently? These are a great engine it should pull well .

Ahh of course, EGR valve. I was thinking of a 1hz before for some reason.
