Were you able to code them in? We fitted new injectors to a mates Ranger and it ran ok, but a bit rough so he took it to the local injector place and got it done. Made a world of difference.
Sooo follow up time
I sent the 5 squirters to a diesel shop in Australia
Report came back as ;
No.5 - open tap - no spray pattern pouring fuel
No. 2-4 - failed pressure failed pattern
No. 1 - marginal pass
Owner stumped up for 5 new injectors ($2500 thanks very much) and just yesterday I plonked them in
Thank allah it started up and ran like pharlap
Pumping some smoke out the tail but idling beautifully
After some running the smoke has cleared and I think we have a relatively simply
Albeit expensive fix
Thanks all for help

Hi Sharmy,
from what I had read, the BT50 does not need coding of the injectors?
Happy to be corrected
The story came out after the fact, the ute was only a few months owned on Badu - It never ran 100% right!
They had bought it from Bamaga
Dollars to donuts the mainland sellers had a hunch and shuffled it off to the islands to die!
After reading 1000 horror stories of holed pistons in this engine when injectors fail I was a little surprised that all appears ok after a simple change out.
After three years on the island with some of the worst fuel supplies in Australia, having played with the clogged filtering systems of at least 10 vehicles and same number of outboards
All I can say is you can't pre-filter your fuel well enough! Always using a " Mr Funnel " and a couple filters before the VST or fuel rail is the only way !

SupporterIts not always the injectors that cause failures in these motors, (mostly no 3 , the hot one in the middle) the oil pump is prone to failure. I had a gear type fitted when my motor was rebuilt at 50,000 ks as have many others.

SubscriberGiven the number of Rangers and Everests out there, the oil pump failing is hardly mentioned in the forums.
The main problem with 3.2 is the EGR cooler failing. Ford has now warranted them for 10 years and is now even paying people who have had engine failures or who have had private mechanics replace the cooler. I have my letter from Ford in my files and have warranty to April 2028. Many keep driving until the engine overheats and Ford pay for the lot, engine and all.
Compare that to Land Rover .
