    Anyone got a 265/245 HEMI?

Looking at repowering a SIII which has a rover 6cyl, as much as I love Holden red motors I equally love my old Valiants and was thinking about doing something different by going a 265 HEMI.

Does anyone have one or seen one in their travels and what are the pros and cons you came across compared to a holden 202 or ford 250xflow? Can you even get an adaptor plate readily for them?

I love the LR 2.25L (not so much the 6cyl haha) but I also like keeping up with my mates on the beach/highway

Plenty of Hemi conversions have been done. This is probably the best re-power of an LR you can do. Bill Winter 07 3274 4373 did just about the first on a Series 3 wagon about 30 years ago and has done more since.

I have a 265 here and am open to offers. It is a late engine from a CM and was running in a rusty car until deregistration. Has no manifolds or starter, but has flex plate, alternator, water pump.

Edit:- I have a new four barrel manifold, CM split headers and a swag of Quadrajet carbs to go with. Make an offer.

Wasn't there a 215 Hemi which might be better suited to the Landy drive train.

Yes there was a 215, 245 and 265 based on the same block. A 265 in combination with a SIIA gearbox and the right driving technique should hold up okay I believe. I've already got a sailsbury so shouldn't have a problem with the diffs or axels. I'm getting pretty keen on this idea now, the other option is a 250xflow from an XF falcon with EFI...

I had a Series IIA Stn Wagon which was rolled & I turned it into a Trayback because the body was stuffed.

Had a 245 Hemi , 5 speed Nissan Caball box (Gearshift pattern was backwards)
with a Marks adaptor, think it had a LR transfercase (long time ago - bad memory) McNamara difflock & pretty sure it had powersteering.
Anyway it was a bloody teriffic Landy, Much better useable power than any Holden powered Landy I had and heaps of low down grunt.

Also had a 80" series one with a Hemi in it, might i say awesome, and never broke a semi floating axle either , I think the wheels spent more time spinning than gripping, ex Zerbes Orchard in Doncaster , Pulled out Hemi & restored into a nice original 80" .

I have had the 215 and 245 hemi motors in my s111. the 245 had 2 barrel carby and custom extractors. Ran cooler than holden with more power and better fuel consumption. Just had to move engine to left hand side a fraction due to size of sump.

I really consisered the 245 and 265 coversion. I even found an adaptor but I didn't go with it in the end but it would be my first choice over the Holden motors.

Back in the 1970s I had this Series 11A with a 215 Hemi in it. It worked really well with heaps of torque down low. I could let the speedo needle go down until it bounced on 0 and then accelerate away in 4th gear. It did go through a few gearboxes though. We used to do pretty serious work in the Victorian Alps as well a lots of towing. It towed a caravan around Australia and then was used as a workshop vehicle for our 4WD business. I ended up with a Series 3 syncro box and that was still in it when I sold it in 1981. I had a Fairey overdrive for a while but it ate that up.

I have a 265Hemi in a 67 Ser11A 109. Standard gearbox, transfer case with a Toro overdrive. LPG conversion, Holley Carb (dual throat 350 from memory), Salisbury rear end. It is the Saraha sand colour, but some fool over painted it blue then repainted it with light lemon house paint which is blistering off. I am about to attack it with a sander/stripper.

I have re wired this with heavy duty wiring, all HD cable, alll circuits go from battery to battery, all circuits have a circuit breaker and a relay (30amp Hella from memory). All connections are soldered. The wiring job cost me a fortune in wire and parts).

I am currently using it as a daily driver while my Nissan is on the ropes for a few days. It has full NSW rego and is registered until August 2013.

Bucket seat look like Falcon XA vintage which are a bit ratty with split stiching.

It is a bit rough looking, but everything works and motor doesn't burn any oil.

I had the Railco bearings in the steering replaced with tapered roller bearings to lighten the steering (a guy at Greenacre did it).

It has 6x Speedie white spoke 7.7"x 16 rims with 205 (I think) X 16 Cooper STT tyres and also has a set of 8" rims with 10.5 x 31x15 rims with Bridgsetone Desert Duelers.

The Coopers have oodles of tread, but are about 8 years old. The Bridgestones have a reasonable amount of tread, but aren't real flash.

I can't afford to run two full regos along with my 1150cc motorcycle and am open to offers.

If there is any interest, I will take a ****load of photos and set up a folder in photobucket so that you can check it out.

If I don't sell it I will continue with the respray and this will no doubt increase the cost (to you, haha!).

With a Range Rover centre in the front and a Rear end from a Series vintage V8, this would be a fabulous Landrover, but it was a money pit formany years and all other issues are sorted. I am a bit disappointed that I will not see the project through, but I just don't have the time or the money.

It will sit on 100KPH all day if you can stand the noise (3000rpm on the electronic tacho). The Valiant motor doesn't seem to worry and is happy to roar along hour after hour. I have been to Victoria Sambar hunting in it and used to drive from Bathurst to Tumbarumba every few weeks and did plenty of miles around the Snowy Mountains and Wagga district.

The wiper motor is rooted, but I have tee'd one of these up and the wipers will be working (you don't actually need wipers in a landrover, except for drizzle. Serious rain just sheets off the vertical screen, which is good because they are pretty ****ty wipers! This one has modified wipers which look like wipers on most other cars, so they work well(ish).
