Cool Hurry up with that snorkel!

Just had a sticky beak at the lucky8 site in the USA (junosi mentioned it to me last weekend). They have a process for coating and waterproofing the ECU!! Hopefully someone in Australia gets a hold of the formula and starts doing it here too!!! Combine it with the HRA snorkel coming up soon and I'm going to play on the beach! At last I can test out the rust free properties of the alloy panels on the pig!

You could probably DIY it. Google 'conformal coating' or 'potting compound' and you should come up with a variety of resin type coatings for waterproofing pcb's. I've used HumiSeal 1b31 before and had good results

Funny you should mention the water-proffing of the ECU... I asked Justin at Lucky8 about that last week and he told me they no longer do it. Didn't elaborate why.

I can only guess that the epoxy was pretty pricey, and/or the sealing of the ECU itself caused heating problems... and how do you guarantee that all 24(?) connectors will seal properly?

    Cheers, Paul.

the extension harness used in the Lucky8 clip is the key... relocate the BECM... slip it into the storage pocket behid the driver's seat? Then think about the same for the auto trans/EAS ECUs etc...unless the vehicle only leaks on one side

    Another good idea then...

Extension cords all round, and throw in a 6 bank powerboard for me too!

    Waterproof ECU's

    Sounds great!!,

I think that they actually use a thermally conductive goo, so it take the heat away from the PCB, I have been looking into it and even seeing about creating extension leads for the ecu and modifying the glove box to hold them.

Its not much but its a start!!!

Paul, I rang Lucky 8 too and they told me to send my ecu over to them and they could do it, that was about a week ago?????

    Cheers

curious... I contacted him on Friday 26-March and he said they were no longer doing it. Maybe because I asked him about buying some of his kit for local distribution here. He may understandably want to keep that to himself, but why then tell me he is no longer doing it? Dunno, but good luck with it if you get it done.

Snorkel, yeah... Andy is busy with it... you'll see it on my car soon, or maybe his "test mule" if I don't get up to Sydney in time.

    Cheers, Paul.

    ANDY'S TEST MULE???

Andy has a P38 now? YIPPEEEEE!!!!

Please expand... I read that build up he and father did on sisters 130, and am having some very weird (but good!) visions of what Andy would/could do with a P38!!!

Any photo's available of "the mule"?

    Dave

P.S. Razza, how much were they charging for the ECU goo dip?

P.P.S. Paul, I've had similar experiences with US businesses... my understanding is exporting puts them further under the eye of the dreaded IRS and creates a whole heap of admin drama's... probably doesn't help AUS is such a piddly market compared to their own. I wonder if they would be more inclined to help if we were say the population of China or India?
