OK update.. Just fitted the new (well reco... 8 BOSCH 19LB 19 LB MPI FUEL INJECTORS DESIGN III FORD: eBay Motors (item 220650012418 end time Aug-16-10 18:42:25 PDT) ) injectors.
While i used the Suburu upper engine cleaner, it was all pretty messy inside the plenum and especially the intake runners and around the holes where the injectors sit in the intake manifold. So sprayed a bit more cleaner around while i could get to it. Fitted the new injectors put it all back together and.... i cant believe how smooth my idle is now! At first though the engine idled at about 1800rpm then settled back down to about 850. This is still above normal though. Hmmm, any ideas??
Went for a run anyway. Cannot believe how little throttle is required. I know about the idle speed but when i put the car in gear idle speed settles at 800rpm, no AC on. Ill go for a good run tomorrow to get an average. The biggest thing though is the smoothness. Going to upload pics of an old GEMS Lucas injector and the new Bosch GEN III injector as soon as i can figure out photobucket...

Figured it out. Dunno if you can make it out, but the Bosch GEN III's have 4 tiny little holes and the old GEMS has 1 big hole. Just the smoothness and responsiveness of the engine at all revs is enough for me to say to any GEMS owners do it, change them. For $115 delivered to Australia and 2 hours of your time it is absolutely worth it. Ill have fuel figures tomorrow arvo.

Ok, freeway averaging 95kmh 12.6 with a few small hills, overall including 15km urban, 80km freeway and 40km off road (Watagans while i was in the area...) equalled 16.4l/100km. Much better. Cant calm the idle back to 675 rpm though. On occasion out of gear it will head up toward 1200rpm or higher. Hmmm... Anyone know if i need to reset the ECM in some way??

Alright another update. Bought an MSV2 Faultmate extreme. What an awesome bit of gear! Although it meant i had to buy a windows computer... And im hopeless at any computer but more so with these! You get past it though.
Reset my adaptive values and my idle is all steady now at 660. Im real happy. If you love your P38, and intend keeping it, get a Faultmate. Awesome.

Oh and with my light foot my fuel is averaging around 14.3 l/100km. Im happy with that, very happy. Freeway is down to 12.4 at 100km/h.

those latest figures seem to be right on the money! well done

Yep back to where I think it should be too. My oldies prado v6 struggles to get that. Tojos, why would ya!?

Dont know if this helps but i did my first run in my newly aquired mint condition 2000 4.6 HSE today and over 500kms on mostly open roads (100 - 105) it returned 12.1 lt/100kms which simply stunned me! It seems to use about half the fuel my modified 4.0 D2 does!!!
cheers,
