radiator could be partially blocked
Gday, Recently bought a 1995 P38 hse 4.6 from Ballarrat, vic. Drove it to spencer gulf area in S.A. Had no probs til I went dirt tracking, Thing got hot and pumped out half its water from cooling system. Very recently removed motor, replaced head gaskets, block looked real good. When running again same deal, got a new thermostat, same deal, drilled a few holes in old thermostat thing runs great but only at 60 C, seems when new thermostat in cooling sysytem water only flows through heater matrix system and not through radiator, anyone got any ideas....I have nearly exhausted all avenues ?
radiator could be partially blocked
Been through that, initially was a leaking trans cooler which fluid onto radiator + dust/grim blocked airflow, radiator all sorted ! Runs like a champ with drilled thermostat, but no chance with new thermostat installed ? Seems to boil water in block and spew out expansion tank, really got me scratching my head......big time !
no i meant internally blocked, inside the core.
hasn't slipped a liner?
Nah, radiator is all done, in and out. Block, liners and all internals seem A1.
From your answers to the Question " Is the radiator blocked" I cant get a clear answer. The Rads on these cars are very prone to clogging up slowly and you can only really see the problem if you remove the tanks from the rad. If the Rad is partially blocked it will also make things very difficult when trying to fill with coolant as its hard to get all the air out at the best of times.
Rad is all good, as is motor. Maybe has a little air in system.....Is there any tricks of the trade for bleeding air out, can only do what the manual says.
Just throwing it out there.......any chance of water pump slippage between impellor and housing ?
Just does'nt seem to open stat ? is a new landy component !
Now...bear in mind....old modified stat, can run this vehicle in low range and a bit of stick.....no cooling issues except motor much lower than optimum running temp.
Has been mentioned about a slipped liner, have had top end of motor apart, didnt seem to be any signs of any damage or issues, block decks/head surfaces all flat and in very good condition, bores still have hone marks etc. Anything that I may have missed. Near on ready to give up and source another motor, I know thats pretty extreme.......but these issues in winter, hate to see what happens in 40 c temps ?
Was going to mention last night but never got round to it.
A Slipped liner may only have moved a little. The only way I could tell on my block was that when I ran my finnger nail over the liner there was a slight lip. I'm guessing maybe 0.25mm if that. There was also evidence of washing of No.4 Piston. But i could not visualy see if the liner had moved. Head gaskets also looked perfect.
