lost brake power, two lights on dash, ignition says key still in when its not

ive lost my power brakes, 2 lights on dash, but can push hard to stop, but at the same time if i take my key out it says its still in the ignition, and wont lock the steering so it makes me wonder if this is yet an other electrical problem

I am sure You will get some assistance from this Forum however to help us help you what year is your car, when / how did this start, what have you checked already. The ABS valve block ( Master Cylinder) has a known fault which can cause sudden loss of braking. There is A big plug on the ABS valve block which potentially could come off. There are fuses and an ABS ecu which could fail. The ignition switch or BECM could also be a culprit

Ive had key in ignition when its not problem on my P38 R.R. Used a graphite lube to partially cure this problem. Also replace & remove key in ignition a few times till electronics recognize key is out.Thats the simple answer. I'm sure others will coment on your other problems

Even if the accumulator is spent, there should still be some braking assistance. I suspect this is your problem. Do you know if the Brake Modulator Repair kit has been installed?

    See this thread
RangeRovers.net • View topic - Please read all P38 owners up to mid 1999(brake modulators)

BMR kits can be had from Russell (the originator of the thread) or though my site http://hardrange.com/node/17

Cheapest way to get a new accumulator is from the UK or from Rover Renovations in NY.

As for the key still in ignition message, follow Gary's advice and put some lube in the barrel.

    Cheers, Paul.
