Having had my late 99 Thor for 16 months I would advise that unless you are prepared to do any work on the car yourself it will send you broke. Having said that I have overcome the usual issues with time and a modest amount of Money. I have done 25000ks and after the initial work on the car which I knew about I have replaced or repaired. 4 airbags, Engine mounts, Air Valve block, air compressor, Radiator, CVJ boot, Its my daily drive and gets a workout in the bush as often as I can. The 18 tyres are expensive and seem vulnerable to off road hazards
A 99 may or may not have the later and more desirable Thor engine and Bosch injection. The cooling system working efficiently is critical and Rads seem to block up over the years. Air bags go bad with time so check they have been replaced.
Keys cost A$600 so make sure its got 2. Everyone I have investigated has had the drivers door window lifter break and replaced. Pre Bosch cars can suffer complete sudden brake failure. A cheap DIY fix to the brake valve block but an arm and a leg at the Stealers.
Happy to help or advise with any issues you have.

Do it, they are great machines... just bear in mind, that they are 10-15 year old now and if they have not been properly maintained there are likely to be outstanding service requirements. Consider getting one you know is sorted... Paul from Hardrange currently has a goodie for sale with plenty of extras. try sending him a PM for info on it... Pretty sure its PaulP38a.

Do what i'm doing - Get a major inspection done on it. Mine was written off due to water damage less than a week ago, i'm getting another one, and the people doing the inspection are called "State Roads". They do inspections in major cities on the east coast (possibly on the southern and western majors too) and will give you a major report on the car.
I used them to buy my first one (a 2000 HSE) and they were spot on! I didnt have any trouble with mine at all. I have them inspecting a 2001 HSE for me tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
Good luck with yours!

No, it was dark green (exact same colour as my old one)!!
I missed it.
Someone payed cash ten mins before I got there !
I consoled myself with a good run out in my classic and blowing away a 2010 Mitsubishi triton from the lights. Ha, eat my dust!!
Thanks for the notes gents, Coltvas.
