Radio Code entry. What am I doing wrong

Has anybody got any idea how I enter the 6 digit radio code into my 98 Range Rover P38. It is the standard factory radio unit which is a Eurovox model 8790R. I have tried a thousand various methods but no luck. I have removed the unit to check that the serial number matches the Eurovox security code card which came with my users manual. That was a match.

Everytime I enter the 1st digit I don't know how to get the unit to accept it or lock it in, or how advance to the 2nd digit.

I am now using the trusty portable radio on the dashboard, just as my father used to use in his FC Holden when I was a kid.

Any ideas or suggestions please ???????

on the D2 Eurovox you just enter the numbers in from the radio preset station buttons, 1 to 6 in the sequence as stated on your manual. it automatically prgoresses from 1 number to the next, although there is no indicaiton on screen it is doing this.
so the code on mine was 2242. i just pushed radio preset 2 twice, then preset 4 then preset 2 and it unlocked. on screen doesn't give a user friendly readout of whats happening though.

I thought you just entered the code number by number. I dont think you have to save or lock each number, just move on to the next one and when all numbers entered it should just work.
At least that is the way it is on later D2 Eurovox.

    cheers

Thats what I thought Rosscoe & Strangy but its not the case. My code is 252466. I enter the 1st digit via the preset 1-6 button by pressing 1 twice until 2 appears. Once it appears it won't move onto the next option or anything. The 2 just remains there. No matter what other preset button I press after that the 2 will just keep counting up to it reaches the last digit 6. It flashes a few times then moves onto the next number input. So its as if it accepts the 6 instead of the 2. Above the main numbers on the screen is a smaller number telling me which code number is in play. And of course once it doesn't accept I need to wait an hour before I have another crack at it.
I do know that if i press the preset 1 button 6 times, it fires up and works for around 3 minutes before it stops once again.

Have you tried pressing the 2 button to enter the number 2, then the 5 button to enter 5, then the 2 button again to enter 2, etc

No No No No No No.......
If your code is 252466, then disregard the screen & concentrate on the numbers of the code..again disregard the screen its there to confuse you!
First button to push is the number 2 radio preset button, then the number 5 radio preset button, then the number 2 radio prest button, then the number 4 radio preset button, then the number 6 radio preset button & finally the number 6 preset button & it should then just burt into life, set the stations & away you go.

    Cheers.

    Red face Its working

    Thanks Sniegy & everyone else.
You were spot on when you said to ignore the screen.
Its now working & I can't beleive how simple it was. I feel like an idiot.
I just entered the code in one after the other as you suggested via the preset numbers and bingo, It fired up.

Thanks for all the help guys.

No worries that is what this site is for.

You were not the first to try it the logical way and you will not be the last

Glad you got sorted. What a base of knowledge. I am a new owner too, and I am worried about what will happen when these guys get old and buy L332s

I have never had to enter my radio code, even though I have removed the battery many times. Mine is a 2000 4.6. Its a stock radio unit as far as I can tell. Anyone know what the situation is there? Is my code for the radio the same as my EKA code, I got no radio manual with my car.

The 2000 MY will have the Alpine head unit so maybe they don't have a code.
PM me the last 6 of the VIn & I'll see what's listed.

It's definitely not the same as the EKA unless it's coincidence.
