    Air Con Condensor Fans

    Hi All,
I've had one of the two Air Con Condensor Fans pack it in on my P38... New Replacements are around $1100 for the set... I've found some used ones at Wreckers for around $300, however was wondering whether anyone had some better ideas or alternatives they have used.

I haven't heard mine come on for many years - except when testing to see if they still worked).

They are reluctant to run on any P38A it seems.

How do you know it is dead?

Mine work as expected when the Air Con is running.
When Stationary they kick in to ensure the Condensor gets enough Cool Air to Operate.

The one that is defective has a dodgy bearing ete, I managed to knock it a couple of times and it started to spin around, then 15 minutes later a nasty grinding noise and it stuck pretty solid

I jumpered mine to see if they worked and thought I havent ever heard that sound before - I don't think they have ever come on. I am thinking about jumpering a relay onto the compressor clutch to run them as my car regularly gets quite warm...

Both fans on my RRC died and I just used one old Davies Craig I had under the house and a Supercheap one. AT $70 the Supercheap is working well and you could afford 15 for the price of a new OE one.

They draw about the same amps at 7 and fitting to the RRC was pretty simple, as I just cut off the bolts for the OE, drilled siome holes in the bars across the condensor and wired them to the original wires.

I do not know about P38 but it wouldn't be difficult. Just don't use the "through radiator" fittings.

I've had mine fixed recently by an auto electrician as the A/C was getting warm when sitting at the lights.

As above, I hear mine when out bush doing low-range work, but never ever around town! If idling for a while when using the faultmate I put an industrial fan in front of the car, but it does take a while on a hot day for them to kick in!

I'd suggest a davies craig or supercheap replacement, for next to nothing compared with OEM it makes sense! You could even buy an extra one incase one of the cheapies packs it in!

    Cheers
