I was forced into fitting an aftermarket unit as when I bought my car there was no stereo. I used all the original speakers but bypassed the door amps. The Sub was missing so I have a 12" unit in the original space. I put a sub amp in the space behind the battery. 2 years on and it still rocks. I have since replaced the 2 front door midrange with 4" units since as they were found to be wanting and had splits in the material.
When I started I thought it was going to be a real issue and that the existing amps would need to be used. I consulted an expert in electronics and he advised if keeping the amps just to put a 50cent resister inline on each head unit output. I did post up at the time if you can find the details. You will also need some blanking plates for the sides of the head unit available from e-bay . You will no doubt loose the steering controls.

Just be careful what signals you send to the amp. I'm not familiar with the P38A setup, but on the Disco 2, I required a module to convert from the high powered output from the head units amplifier to a low power for the factory amp to intake. If this wasn't done damage can occur to the amps. If this is the case, might be worth finding and reading my thread...

cheers guys. had a proper look and found previous threads that helped. i ended up getting the head unit and new 6.5s in. ****ed the door amps off. not very happy with the sound so im going to hook the door amps back up and use the resistors. or just get a 4 ch amp for them. cheers.
