    Wheel travel question

    I was going to primarily ask Paul, however I'm aware that he's not the only one riding on Gen III's.

    My question is, I'm on the hunt for wheel travel! I don't need lift, mine's high enough to fit the 31's so I'm happy for now. I'd like to see the wheels stay in touch with the ground more. Would a set of Gen III's do that for me or should I simply disconnect the sway bars?

    I've heard that the Gen III's offer around 3" extra travel over standard.

    Anyone with ideas or suggestions will be much appreciated!

    Here's my 20c worth.

    Wheel travel is limited by:

    1. shocks
    2. springs
    3. bump stops
    4. anti-sway bar
    5. wheel arches

    Gen III's give 2-3" of extra travel above stock air springs, however you don't want to over-extend them. Their lifetime warranty will be of little comfort if you rip the top retaining ring off in the bush or on a beach. Carry a spare (front and rear) - one of your old springs should do just fine.



    Be careful about removing anti-sway bar links before playing off-road. You will get a bit more upwards travel with them disconnected. Never have them disconnected on-road... as I found one day when I forgot to re-connect them. Changing lanes quickly at 110kph while locked on EAS Standard height got a bit scary.


    The shocks should extend out to max before overextending the air spring, and the bump stops should prevent the shocks from bottoming out.


    Wheel arches will get in the way of good articulation with wide tyres. My 255/85R16's tuck up nicely inside the arches... just. Not sure if other 33" tyres at 265mm wide would do the same. You could always cut your arches and graft some Disco II or Defender flares if you dare

    I currently don't have the tyres to make the HR lift kit viable. I was thinking about getting some Gen III's now, making them work, then getting your lift kit minus Gen III's down the track!

    With the Arnott's, would you recommend changing shocks to a particular type/stroke or sticking with the stocko's? Mine are close to retirement! Also, you guys do a sway bar quick disconnect kit right??

    I'm riding on the 255/70's which tuck away brilliantly with standard bumpy's, later on i'll be rolling on the same size as yourself!

    Stick with the stock shocks until you convert to the lift kit, then get the longer ones.

    If you need to replace your front shocks now, no worries - you can move them to the rear if/when you put in the 2" lift.

    We are not stocking the sway bar quick disconnects at the moment. Andy has had some under development for a while, but no idea if/when we will start to sell them.

    You can get the same style as the ones on my car direct from Justin at Range Rover Sway Bar Link in the USA.

    Personaly i wouldn't get too carried away with lift kits for the p38's, as they're pretty good the way they are, but that's me, as i love the P38 for what they are. The ground clearance is pretty good on them, just the diff is the the thing that sometimes tends to get hung up.
