    2002 Range Rover key problems

    Hi all,

I've got a friend with a 2002 Range Rover. They can open the doors with the key (remote won't work), but the car won't start due to the immobiliser i think.

Looks like the car will have to be towed to the dealership.

Any ideas how to get around this and start the car?

There is apparently a combination to reprogram the remote. Does anyone know this?

    Thanks in advance.

They haven't been able to open it. Its a bit mangled from years of use.

Might have to be cut open...

There is no way to reprogram a P38A remote at home (or at the car). So never buy a keyfob off eBay believing it can be reprogrammed.

Have they tried the EKA (Emergency Key Access) code? The instructions are in the Owner's Handbook. They should have the EKA code. If not, by quoting the VIN to the dealer, the dealer should be able to provide it.

There is supposedly a universal EKA of 1515 (I think) but as my car doesn't have EKA enabled, I don't need it.

    Thanks Ron,

They have the code for the car, which has been confirmed by the dealership, but does not work.

They have opened the remote(s) and the battery(s) seem ok. I believe they have 2 remotes, both not working.

Its starting to look like the fault is in the car, not the remote...

DId they start the right way?

A lot of people get the sequence out of step.

It may be that the connections under the rubber buttons have moved as this has happened on a number of occassions with mine.
To check remove the rubber piece on the key fob and check the position of the connection points. They should be centred. Mine move off centre after a while and makes the remote inoperable. If they are, use a sharp point ( a pointed knife point for example) to slide the metal connections back to centre and replace rubber cover.
See attached photos where the second ( door open ) button is off centre. Just recentre and you are back in action.
