I am sure I read somewhere how Remy had created a fix for this problem and had successfully rewired the SW controls to work on an aftrmarket unit.

I suspect the Clarion diagram is wrong. You'll note that, if the diagram is correct, pressing either switch 2 or 4 would ground a 4k7 ohm resistor. The radio could not differentiate between them and couldn't do the required function.

In the later diagram, operating switch 2 connects a 470k ohm resistor to ground whilst operating switch 4 connects an 820k ohm resistor - easy to differentiate between them.

That's why I suspect the early diagram is wrong and would like to check a switch. I suppose I could do it on mine.

My new head unit doesn't have steering wheel controls which is a pity.

Oh, don't forget that if you replace the head unit and the new HU does not have dual diversity aerial inputs, the correct aerial lead should be put onto the radio. The RH window has the AM/FM amplifier. The LH amplifier is FM only.

So now you've got me worried. I've owned my Rangie since new - around 14 years. It is my third Range Rover. At no time did I ever come across this info before. How do you know this stuff?

(this question in no way detracts from my delight at finding out)

It's in the Electronic Troubleshooting Manual under Circuits -> E6 -Radio, page 1

The high line (NAS/JAPAN) radio has the following
features: Electronically tuned AM/FM cassette radio
    (Z111), RH antenna amplifier (Z178) for AM/FM
signals, LH antenna amplifier (Z177) for FM signals
    only, 4 door speaker amplifiers (Z241, Z242, Z245,
    Z246), a subwoofer amplifier (Z176), a CD changer
(Z114) and 10 speakers plus a subwoofer speaker
    (K146).
As ours also have the dual diversity high line radio, I think it's reasonable to assume that it also applies to our vehicles, not just the NAS (North American Spec)/Japan.

he has a PhD in matters 'Range Rover'; = "Pretty handy Dude" ... "pretty" describing his degree of "handiness" not necessarily the Dude himself!
