    Key FOB

Just a quick question. Having just purchased a 2001 P38, I'm wondering if I should have got 2 remote key Fobs (instead of just 1) as well as the 2 standard door keys from the PO?

Did they originally come with 2 remote key FOBs?

    Many thanks

Yes the car was supplied with two remote keys.
The keys are different, No1 and No2. They both work the same however the remote used should set the corresponding seat preset. ie key 2 will set the seats / mirrors to preset 2 positions.
Most cars seem to only come with one, as did mine. I ordered one from the UK direct and thankfully it was correct and worked.

See the owners handbook for more info
Also did you get the code to get into the car and start it with the std key? Again see handbook

I had quotes for a second key (Key #2) + remote fob complete from the local LR dealer here in Bris...about $700 cash upfront and no responsibility as to whether it works or not.

I asked my daughter, currently living in London to arrange one...150 quid ($250) including 1st class HM Mail. delivered to Bris. No VAT either because it is for export

Problem: wrong key and fob arrived

Had it been the local bloke ... tough luck! however persistent daughter followed up with detailed photo of original #1 key etc and second one came through OK. Apparently a LR (UK) stuff up...

As long as the driver's door lockset has not been changed you should be OK...

Others have arranged a new key through UK LR dealer Spare Parts dvision from Aus. ...simply got on the phone with a credit card and faxed details of rego certificate (to prove ownership) + V.I.N....

If you have a friend in the UK all the better. Send them a copy of your rego certificate, VIN and hi-res photo of the key blade...both sides. Also, need to be sure which key you need...is it a #1 or #2...
    hope this helps

For some reason LR decided to put stickers on the keys to determine which was which. My sticker has long since vanished. I understand the body of the fob is different for different keys, but they are all faded by now and its hard to tell. You can find out by holding down the unlock button as you approach the car and the drivers seat and mirrors should move to position one or two. If it doesnt move, your key (like mine) is likely number three or four.

Many thanks for the information. It's just what I needed. I'm going to try chasing up the PO to see if he still has the key. Failing that I'll learn to live with the one I've got.
