P38 EAS fault
Hi all,
While I was towing the son's latest buy we encountered a eas problem on the way home.We were towing another p38 on a trailer out of Sydney & on the expressway the eas had a fit & went into fault mode.
We pulled over & found the compressor had stopped working & was hot to touch but it had not dropped onto bump stops yet so we continued home & made it fine.
Tested the compressor today,it works ok with straight power but no power out of the connector while car is running, solinoids are just clicking & not letting any air through, all fuses & relays are ok.
Is this just a protection mode or a symption of something worse?
I have to get the car to Wyong to put it on Testbook to reset codes & need to raise it to do this or will it need to be trailered?
Another question, will Nanocom read & fix these codes & Alarm/Security codes on my son's p38,if so can we buy one in Australia yet?
Thanks Steve.

All the EAS info you need is here.
Air Suspension Faults, Diagnosis and Repair
The compressor gets very hot under normal conditions.
You need to reset the EAS system before it will work
Get yourself an EAS cable and software from Hard Range or e-bay

Either buy or make up q self-rescue system to manually inflate each bag.
It's a T -piece with the arms between the valve block and the 4 hoses from each corner. The "vertical" or base of the T has a tyre valve fitted. - if the EAS - ECU has a hissy fit (no pun intended) then you can fill each bag with a compressor or servo hose.
Best to also have a tap between the T and the block, just in case your problem is a stuffed or leaky pneumatic valve.
The beauty of this more $$ 'isolator/rescue is that you can remove the valve block and repair at your leisure, - still driving the car.

Yes a nanocom will erase the logged fault, but it won't fix the problem with the pump. It may have overheated, could be a faulty overheat switch too - those links are really good to follow!
To my knowlege, there's no nanocom dealer is oz. Paul at hardrange isn't stocking them. It's about $550 mailed to your door from Cyprus. And yes, it will read alarm codes, etc. too.
Have you tried swapping the pump relay?
Double what James posted too - worth their weight in bundy!

Thanks guy's,I had the worst drive ever down to Wyong to get faults read & cleared(I so much missed my air springs)& the gent @ English Auto did a great job.We reset the EAS & HEVAC,as it turned out I have small leaks in my rear bags & she dropped out of range onto the bumpstops overnight & compressor/EAS computer would not start.
Reset everything & up she came,no more problems for now.
We think the combination of air leak&heavy towing put compressor out on over temp & would not pump up.
As soon as Paul opens up his shop again I will be getting a by-pass kit to save me from the worst drive ever again!!!
Will also look @ a Nanocom Evo,these things look the good's & if it only saves you once a year it will pay for itself in 5 year's.
Thanks Steve

until you get a new bag it may be worth putting it on the heigh setting overnight, it might not leak at that setting, and save you from another fault.

Yes, worked for me when I first bought mine.. both rears leaked a tiny bit on 'normal' height.
Whilst the Nanocom is the more versatile gizmo, check out BBS here:-
Blackbox Solutions Ltd. -- Products Page
- I've got the EAS Kicker, and it lives in the glove box at all times. - Quick and easy to connect and read/clear faults. It can also read and re-set individual heights, though I have'nt bothered to fiddle. Around $200. Add the Self-Rescue System and you've spent about $400. - Then buy two rear bags.
If the rears are leaky, chances are the fronts are not far behind (!) and the compressor is heading for an overhaul along with the valves further down the track...
It may be easier/cheaper to go 'springs' and use "Polyair" inserts in the rears for manual load-levelling.
Best to drive one that's been converted to the Dark Side before you spend too much.

Sound's good ,will buy half a nanocom with son as he is the proud owner of a 2000 model p38 so we will both get the most out of it.
New rear bags coming & a bi-pass inflation system is also on it's way.
Ps I love the air suspention it gives a great ride & self levelling is brillant when towing.
Thank's Steve

X2 on EAS kicker and EAS bypass kit as most valuable "get out of jail" tools. Although splitting the evo sounds the way to go given 2 in the family.

Hey another tip when towing you should use inhibit switch to avoid overuse of pump!!
