Help please!! Priming oil pump on Thor 4.6

Having replaced front cover and water pump etc etc and sump..... I woke up at 3 am and realised that i'd forgotten to lube/pack the oil pump... damnation.

I am really under the "pump" to get the truck back on the road...was wondering how I might be able to lube the pump to prime it.

Above the filter there is a gallery blanked off with a disc retained by a circlip which appears to lead directly to the oil pump It does not appear to be the pressure relief valve gallery ...

Is it possible to remove this blank and pour oil /pack "Retinax" grease or petroleum jelly in the gallery and force it through to the pump.

    Thanks in advance

    Hoges

Years ago with the 3.5 and 4.4 you could remove the dissy and use the shank off a screw driver in a drill to prim them up as the oil pump was driven off the dissy im unsure for a 4.6 im not familiar with them

Thanks Rangieman... sadly, with the Thor, the pump drive is concentric with, and driven, by the crankshaft, using the Woodruff key which also drives the timing chain sprocket......

    cheers

Priming a crank driven pump is easy. Remove the oil pressure switch, pump about 1 litre of oil slowly into the switch hole, start and you're fine. A 1/4 BSP fitting will just nip up in the switch hole. Add a piece of fuel line etc and a couple of hose clamps done up or the hose may blow off with predictable results.

On a serpy 3.9 I did it this way:

I just had a look at a new timing cover.

If you remove the oil filter, look up into the filter mounting around the inner edge and you will see there is an elongated hole. That hole is a gallery that connects to the oil pump. You should be able to fill that with oil using a hand pumped oil can.

Alternatively, you can access the gallery by removing the lower oil cooler line.

The gallery in question is the lower one in the second pic.

I would have called you but I've lost your phone no.
