    HSE 4.6 engine failure

Hi guys , Brian here an new to all forums. So here goes.
Have purchased a 2000 hse 4.6 rangerover. Have had for 12 months has done 165,000 km. I use as tow vehicle with weights from 200okg to 3200 kg . And have had nothing better. Have had gas fitted 3weeks ago by deacon in melb ( Barry) vapor injection . 1week later on fishing trip towering home on flats with no load on engine , the coolin system pressure rised an pumped the coolant from the over flow bottle. I shut her down before there was any change in the engine .( only signe was temp in red and light on. Another couple of Kms and I would have had to through the block out. Heads checked all good . So we reckon she's dropped a sleeve. Left hand inbored front cylinder washed clean and spark plug the same.when engine was revved coolant came out quicker. I've currently got short block at powerhouse proformance at warragul Latrobe Valley . It's gettin the full rebuild with a slight change the new cam will be ground to produce torque , and are hopefully fittin high comp pistons.
Have just today bein told that h/comp pistons won't work in this engine because of knock senser ? ( this was by another mech. I'll be ringin powerhouse John pillar tomorrow and see what he thinks). Oh yes, the girl has a new radiator to .good water pump and oil pump. Head gasket was in good nick.
Also priced a top brand set of pistons h/comp with rings $200 each
Rang all fourx4 in Sydney an they can get me h/comp pistons with rings $112 each. European made pistons ,supplier is big parts ,brand of piston unknown. Was told they are made for rover engines fitted with gas. These are cast pistons. Does anyone know anything about these or anywhere else I can pick up good h/comp pistons at a good price . Problem is my pistons are good but I would like more bang for my buck .i am currently sitting around $6,000 for full rebuild and really don't wish to go any higher as fishin is just starting . Well I think I covered all of it and hope you blokes can make sense of it. Can't wait to see what yas reckon . Thanks guys

Running injected gas I would run higher compression and use premium petrol as your back up. Should work fine.

As these engines are known for this type of failure it might be wise to use Top Hat liners to prevent it from happening again.
No slight on your engine re conditioner but it will save pain in the future.
Its a well documented failure and all too common

Yes, doing all that work it pointless without fitting stepped/top hat liners, especially if you tow regularly.

X 2. Top hatting should be done if you intend holding on to the car for some time.
    Hoo-Roo,
