    Refurbish the 4.6

I found a small water leak at the rear of one cylinder head so i guess i am due to do a head refurbishment. I have been looking around and can get head gasket set with bolts included from Britparts was wondering should i replace the cam shaft and hydraulic lifters, drive chain, sprockets, oil pump at the same time and does anyone have torque settings/procedure to redo heads. Thoughts and help gratefully appreciated.

something in here might help Engine Refresh (top end) « PaulP38A.com

I replaced most bits up top except for the cam, as I wasn't ready to pull the engine out or remove the radiator and grille. Still runs well 2.5 years later.

Thanks Paul i was reading prices and Britpart have cams for 45 pound so thought while i was doing the top end might pay to change the shaft.I now have 255,000kms on the old girl it is running well no major issues after a lot of serious off roading. It is a pleasure to drive i do have an issue with the cruise control at present think it may be brake pedal related, radio is stat-icky think it may be loose wire in amplifier and the cd player stopped the other day possible loss of power all will be revealed in the next couple of weeks i hope to have these gremlins fixed then when i get back from OS i should have head parts and differential parts to install.

If you use stretch bolts be sure to get OE quality ones. We've seen some bad low-quality Chinese kind that are not lasting and causing the head gaskets to prematurely fail. The best thing that we found here in the states is the stud kits from ARP
