    Feul Pump 1997 p38

Seems my fuel pump needs replacing and have checked a few uk imports for potential replacements.
    1. Brit part 42 pound
    2. Bearmach 45 pound
    3 OEM 125 pound
    4. Local supply Sydney OEM $334.

Is there anyone with experience with the Bearmach or Brit Part replacement or other alternatives?

Reason I beleive its dying is that it has been difficult to start recently even with jump start battery backup and started straight away when I had it cranking and hit the bottom of the petrol tank with a lump of wood.
In my view that signals fuel pump time.

    Peter:
I had the same issues about 4-6 months back... If you have a GEMS have you changed the Fuel Filter?

Fuel Filter is located under the Drivers Side Passenger Door. I found once I changed this with a New one my issues went away.

Much, Much, Much easier to change than the Fuel Pump!!!!!

    Regards
    Heath

Thanks Heath, it is a GEMS engine and I will have a look at that side of things before ordering. I think I have a spare feul filter somewhere. Car has now done 330K and I have had it for just over a 100k of those so wouldnt be surprised if the fuel pump is on the way out. In my old classic the fuel pump would only last about 100- 150 K and the fuel tank thump test always proved accurate.

    Peter:
I thought exactly the same way. Mine had done 290,000km when I was having the issues and I'd purchased the Fuel Pump from lrdirect.com in preperation for the fairly big job of removing tank etc...

However if you haven't changed the Fuel Filter in your time of ownership (and trust me mine didn't looked like it had been changed) it could easily be the culprit.

They often get overlooked for changing as the Thor Engined P38 don't have filters as far as I know.

Let me know how you go!!!

    !
If you make an access hole in the floor its quiet a simple job, loads of how to`s if you search.

The Thor does have a Fuel filter, look at my Thor fuel pump renewal thread for location and pics.

Brit part and Bearmach have always supplied quality parts as far as my experience goes. For a Gems unit it a no brainer not to get one from one of those or many of the other UK suppliers. At 300k+ I would not be going far from home on the original pump. Banging the tank to kick it into life is as good a test as I would need to convince me its time to change the pump
