My Dual Battery install and new centre switch pack

    Hey guys n gals

I had a reasonable weekend just gone got up to a fair bit of mischief! I have now fitted up my dual battery system - so glad i've finally done that. I also made up a switch panel for the centre instrument binnacle.

The basics of my dual battery system is that i've run a Traxide SC80 smart charger, about 6m of 6B&S cable (conjuted to the chassis), have an anderson plug in the rear so I can physically remove the second battery - I wanted this as we also take our Isuzu D-max out on family outings, and i've run a switch from the earth on the smart charger so I can tell it when to run and when not to.

The benefit of this system is that I have used my Ark Power Pack as the battery box, have not gutted the Ark charger or anything inside the box, so I can also use 240v to charge the aux battery prior to any trip or for the purpose of topping it up before putting it in the D-max (which will later recieve the same SC80 setup i've got in the Rangie).

The switch panel means i've now removed my Rear Air Locker switch from the panel below the steering wheel and placed it within easy sight/reach rather than fear i've bumped it with my knee (which has not yet happened, but if someone else were to drive my Rangie it is possible). And the other switch is my aux battery on/off switch. Next on the list will be a switch hooked up to the EAS delay timer.

Attached images are the final product with the exception of the switch pack - I will cover it with some black or dark grey contact or something, but for the meantime it's locked and loaded! Don't mind the mess - I haven't vacuumed the Rangie as yet!

    Cheers

Neat! Must admit, I much prefer "industrial" design where you can see the screws etc for easier maintenance (function before "form"). Re. the plate... a spray coat of etch primer plus a coat of grey-black using a small 'touch-up' can would sort it. The "earth" switch on the SC80 is a great idea! thanks!

    Cheers mate!

The on/off is my piece of mind button. It also means that the charger is resting when the aux battery is not in place. EDIT - I made two brackets for the facia panel out of aluminum angle, the screwed the plate to it. As you said, function over form - I can remove it in seconds and have room for 10 switches there so running wires no longer requires the dash to be removed.

I can quickly and easily remove the aux to jump start myself if ever I need to as well! Added benefit is that both batteries are 760cca and 105ah, so every few months ill swap them over and give them both a chance to work or rest.

That plate looks like a good spot to put a pressure gauge to monitor the EAS Tank, an LED to indicate when the compressor is running, and a switch to disable the EAS Delay Timer... just saying

Just a quick update after the weekend.

I ran my 80L ARB fridge at -4 for over 48hrs on the weekend with no worries. Had plenty of amp hour left in the battery, just ran out of time to drain it! So the charger works a treat. That was my trial run to see how long it'd last at camp without starting the engine to charge it up. Not bad for a 105ah dual purpose battery. All good camp trips must come to an end...

    Very pleased with my setup.

    Cheers
