Thread: Best Battery

I've got a deka battery thats 1016cca. Not sure on rc. Its the same batteries they use in the Bushmasters. About $400 I payed but that was roughly 4 years ago.

At the risk of sounding a bit simple. What do you do with your vehicle ?, where do you drive it and under what conditions ?

If yours is the normal daily driver with the occasional foray into the bush with perhaps an Engel or such connected why not look at what's specified in the manual ?, the theory being that the makers have some idea whats best. . The first P38's did have Lucas electrics after all .

When all else fails I've always worked on the assumption that there's no such thing as a battery that's too big. So for my money, err... your money, (and assuming you have a single battery setup), I'd go for the biggest capacity (in amp hours, not bull**** RC's and the such) battery that fits in the battery holder.

Optima batterys are excellent for heavy duty applications. Their ability to withstand harsh enviroments and vibration (corrugated road driving) without failure along with their quick charge attributes puts them well ahead of conventional flooded cell batterys in this application. But if this is not your thing a good quality Calcium type lead acid battery should do the job for you.

I'm not going to say mine's the "best" but its convenient for me.

I run two "Supercharge" All-rounders. They have 760cca and are a 105ah battery. One is my auxiliary battery and one is the starter. I will make a habit of swapping them around once every few months to give them both a good run. I only just set up my dual battery system and both batteries are less than 2months old.

BTW: 2 yrs ago I tested this Battery Discounts for Aulro members and sure enough the chaps at the Brisbane warehouse gave me a significant discount... can't remember exactly but it was better than trade price.

Must be some kind of link between the auzzie dollar as well, got my second one from the same place at trade price less than a month after my first one and saved $2.50!

I agree with Deano.

The Optima Yellowtop is definetaly the way to. They are a little on the pricey side, but as the saying goes 'you get what you pay for'.

The Beauty as Deano already mentioned is good vibration & heat resistance which is a battery killer alone.

Also do not even bother with maintenance type batteries, they're a thing of the past and nothing but trouble in off-road situation. They spill acid everywhere especially on the delicate air lines, which by choosing the sealed batteries eliminates another potential problem.

I've got the Yellowtop Optima, and has been the best battery that I've come across, I have no reason not to like the Optima.

Have a look at the Catepillar catalogue for 115-2422. Spec - maintenance free, 1000 cca & 90 aH - would be adequate for p38, even on a cold day.

As a start battery would agree, but FWIW the benefit of the Allrounder is its deep cell characteristics as well as Start capability, plus additional terminals for auxillary equipment .
