I have just replace the Idler pulley situated directly below the alternator, not the tensioner Idler pulley. This was on my to do list after renewing the Tensioner Pulley, Air con compressor idler pulley bearing and the bearing on the steel idler pulley under the power steering pump.
This last pulley was in the worst condition of all, both the bearing and the actual pulley. The pulley wheel is plastic and the surface had worn down to a point I consider myself very lucky it had not cracked or ****tered. A replacement from the UK , LRseries.com, was 18 pounds shipped. It comes as a kit with bolt, bushes and O-ring. The new one is a solid steel lump so an improvement which should last indefinitely.
I have read there was a recall in the USA for the idler pulley but cant find anything on other markets. I would suggest a good look at the pulley is in order, it should be flat across the surface. If you have ridges at the edges the plastic is wearing away
I have tried to get a measurement of the thickness left on the old pulley main surface, it not exact but I recon no more than .5mm. Its 1.5mm on the outer edges so I presume thats the thickness when new
QUOTE " ****tered"![]()
Has the swear filter gone into overdrive of political correctness? I thought Wayneg was taking the mickey with the word ****tered. So I spelt it out...sure enough it came back as per the 4 asterisk example. S.h.a.t.t.e.r.e.d. is a precise term in proper English usage to denote breaking up into sundry parts... Reminds me of Stan Freeberg's parody 50 yrs ago of the Negro Spiritual Song "Ol' Man River"...which he changes to "Elderly Man River" at the behest of a mythical Censor... ahhhh golly gosh
EDIT... I forgot, grammar and spelling have not been taught properly for 40 years...
