HI
Maybe it's a bit late now, but I would be checking the voltages at the lamps, it sounds like you have a bad connection or a bad earth somewhere
My display is easily readable in the daytime

Hi all.
I have recently done the Audi heater conversion. I replaced ALL the lamps in the HVAC and instrument cluster whilst I did the core. The backlighting of the LCD on the HVAC and the message centre were critical to me!
The backlighting in the HVAC doesn't appear to work when the headlights are Off. i.e. during the day, I can not see temps etc. I swapped with another brand new lamp for the backlight (not cheap for what it was) I have proven all the globe works too.
At night time, I can turn the headlights on and I can then see the LCD display being back lit, very dull though. Adjusting dimmer does nothing to the LCD Display, everything else is ok.
Any ideas much appreciated.
Cheers,
HEYVJ

Hi heyvj, I have the dreaded wet carpet issue now on my 99hse Thor, I really don't want to bypass my heater as I love it too much, any tips on this audi conversion or is there anything I need to be aware of? Also where can I get one from and do you have a part Number or what car it's out of. . And advice is much associated. .
Cheers
Sam
Are you sure it's the heater core and not just the heater o-rings?
Having said that, if the bolt holding the clamp plate is over tightened, I suspect that causes the plastic fitting to crack. My pics of that should be on here or on rangerovers.net

Hi
I did my heater core o-rings when I did my blend motors.
Seems to me the Audi conversion is a permanent solution, but it looks like a much bigger job.
Personally I am happy to replace the o-rings every 5 or 10 years
The Audi conversion procedure is documented here

I had the same problem with reading gauges on one of my non Landrover cars Heyvj but I solved it.
I purchased a $10 book reading clip on LED light. I clipped it to the dash and aimed it at the gauges. A simple on/off swtich on the back of the LED light head allows me to turn it on as needed. Problem solved. Being LED the AAA batteries powering it will last forever too.
Not sure what's going on in there, got to pull it all apart and see, should I pray it's only the o-Rings?
Sam - if it is the heater core o-rings, send me a text and I'll send you a few pairs, no charge mate... I have heaps here.
Same goes for anyone else on here.
Wet carpet can also be due to the seal around the driver's door not sitting properly, or even water dripping down the pollen filter housing... check for build-up of leaves and other debris clogging the drain around the air-plenum where the pollen filters are inserted.
HEYVJ - I had the same problem with my HVAC display a while ago. Can't remember what the problem/fix was just now... might have been one of the globes or a dodgy pin on the plug. Will repost if/when I remember.
Cheers, Paul.
