Seat belt buckle rattle - fixed

Over the past couple of years the passenger side buckle would always rattle unless the belt was clipped in (apparently quite a common feature). So guess what, it's been clipped in even when there was no passenger. Today I thought I would take off the buckle and see if there were any available in the usual www haunts. So with the buckle out and before jumping on line (for a change) I prised open the plastic cover to see if I could find the cause of the rattle. It didn't take too long to notice that the coil spring (similar to that you might find in a ball point pen) had lost some of its spring capacity. Being a cheapskate from way back I decided to have a go at fixing the problem. I removed the spring, lengthened it by stretching it then put the spring back in. No more rattle . All up around 20 minutes top to remove fix and replace. If only I'd done this sooner

So what's the longest time everyone's put up with this annoying rattle. Thinking back it has probably been closer to 3 years. And yet along the way I've done lots to the the car

I can't remember when it started. Its just become a "tinnitus" type of ringing in my ears that I associate with Nora the Roarer.

It just goes to show the things that annoy us yet we put up with compared to the harder to fix jobs that we will tackle.
Mine has rattled as far back as I can remember but not for much longer.
thanks mate! Was always on the " one of these days I'll look into list" now it's on the to do list

Hey MTB Gary, trying to fix it now. Any help with removing the plastic buckle cover without breakage? Seems to be 2 little rubber stoppers Ive removed but don't really want to prise away much more due to fear of breaking plastic.
