I just lost Drive in all gears...very afraid. And LTFT fixed.

I just replaced my MAF sensor with one the BMW guys use (still Bosch) as my LTFTs were maxed out on 25. By the time I got to the end of the drive (300m) the LTFT had resolved themselves...cleared lean engine faults and didn't come back on a drive round the 'block'.

Triumphantly returning the truck to the haybarn and clearing a lip gave it bit more juice and revved as in neutral...tried all gears inc low range forward and reverse and it just revs like it is in neutral.

Was running perfectly! I am really worried. No faults on OBD or dash.

Has my transmission/gearbox buggered itself somehow?

    Please Help

Assuming that you do not have a heavy leak from the transmission and there is sufficient oil then it sounds like the transmission pump has died... = transmission rebuild could be worth an extensive internet search to see what the "experts" advise. There is a lot of info on zf4hp22/24 transmissions. Very disappointing.

If your park stop still holds in low and high range then it's the trans that's dead. If park doesn't hold then it's the transfer case. I remember reading on here about a P38 stuck in the bush with a stripped spline on the viscous drive, ended up being fixed out in the bush and driven out. Apparently relatively easy to do without removing anything major.

Edit: here it is: urgent help needed- RR broken up the bush.

    UPDATE

Started her this morning and had a little movement in drive...garage is slight uphill so into low range 1st and managed to get her in under her own steam...after a minute though she is revving in as though in N no matter what gear. In Park she holds.

What am I looking at here?? Neither prop turning when in drive on idle.

I've suffered the "Stripped output shaft spline" syndrome ... The sign was a grinding noise with the auto in D (Drive) accompanied with no movement.

I just got a win by replacing the rear amp and getting sound again...needed.

I confess I was just rolling back a little when I put her into Drive...but so slow surely wouldn't strip output shaft? I am on rangerovers.net too and about to check trans fluid as suggested starting point.

Sorry to hear of your woes on the gearbox front. I have limited knowledge of Autos apart from fluid and filter changes. I recall someone before having a suspect pump and it was suggested to remove the cooler return line, run the engine for a short period and see if there is oil pumping out. I am sure you know the fluid level is checked with the motor running.
If in the slim chance you get to suspect the gearbox ECU, I have a recently acquired spare from a 2001 car I could loan out
Mike90rr knows his stuff, I remember him losing all drive and subsequently diagnosing and replacing the output shaft.

Actually no, I checked the level with the motor off and a liter came out on me...just as well I was already in the pink. My 02 doesn't have a return feed I think?
