    Hi

I would be careful here that you are not just masking some other issue.

My 99 was running hot and it turned out to be a failing water pump,(and only 6 months old) no external symptoms but when the old pump came off the bearing was very rough.

My feeling is that you should not need to wire the fans to come on with the AC but work out why the car is running hot in the first place!

Plus one the tree, mine had a new thermostat that stuck half open which was causing same symptoms.......my fans run at low with aircon all the time and kick into high in extreme temps....36c +

The air con runs all the time. Does that mean the fans will? I'd suggest, as others have said, that's a sticking plaster solution and the garage should have more of an interest on the root cause.

Thanks guys, for the reminder to not band-aid a problem.

DPL checked it out, and found the radiator to be a throw-away, so it's been replaced with a second-hand unit, which was then reconditioned.

The thermostat was also not performing as expected, and replaced.

I still went ahead with wiring the thermo fans to come on with the air conditioning, just to have things run a little cooler.

While it was over there, I asked them to install an auxiliary water temperature sensor, to supply signal to my engine monitoring system.

On the way home an icon of a book and exclamation mark appeared in the lower right-hand corner of the climate control screen. Can anyone tell me what that means?
(It didn't return after the car had been switched off).

It means their is a problem with the HEVAC, could be one of a number of things..blend motor..aircon....temp sensor...etc. It's sometimes referred to as a chequebook symbol for obvious reasons.....if your still under warranty I'd suggest you get them to diagnose and repair.

If the car is going back to DPL for other work, it will only take them a few minutes to plug in their TestBook and tell you what the fault(s) is(are).

Otherwise, bribe one of the other Sydney lads with a Nanocom to plug theirs in.

    Cheers

Most of the issues are solved, and as long as the aircon is cold, I'm planning on ignoring this until my OCD gets the better of me.

Sounds like a good idea, thanks.

So, tomorrow I'll either be real happy, or real cranky.

Around 3pm, in the middle of the 41 degree heat that we're expecting, I'll be hooking up the 2.5 tonne food van that I tow, and bringing the trailer to an event.
It's not too far away, but with that kind of heat and load, I'm quite worried that something else may go wrong.

If it's a successful drive, I'll be feeling a lot better about the P38's abilities, and will book an event over the mountains.

    Initial news is pretty bad.

It's 38 degrees outside, the car has been for a bit of a drive, and was sitting in the driveway with the air conditioning running. A second before the photo was take, the needle was higher, and the red warning light was on.
