Just ask a LR specialist like Roverlord for a RRC 92 or earlier filter.
That is if it is a RRC filter, and I cannot think of another like it, unless an Early Disco. They are usually called "barrels"

hi all, Merry Xmas.
I bought a trumpet style air cleaner made of steel for my P38 so it won't explode when I get an LPG backfire. It had no filter in it and am not sure what type to look for. The part number on the trumpet is NTC2589, it says its a genuine range rover part. I do search and find a few styles. It looks to have a bolt in the centre that must hold the filter in, not sure as in search it comes up with filters that are just a hollow tube, some with closed in at one end with a small hole and varying sizes. If anyone has an idea i would love to hear it. I am having to make up a bracket to hold it and the dryer for the EAS , i had to cut the trumpet off about half way up and at an angle to point through to the wheel arch hole...fits ok and should be fine once filter is added....and new MAF as old one has had too many frights over the years.
cheers.

Sounds like the stockie filter assembly used in 1986-1992 Landies. The filter element is the same for RRC and D1s of the era. You seem to be missing the steel cover plate that blocks the forward end of the hollow element. It shouldn't take much effort to make one to suit that covers the rubber inner edge of the element. The air flow on these elements is axial so don't make the cover any bigger than it needs to seal against dust.

Thanks guys, it looked like there was something missing. i will look into the filters suggested and make up a plate. I'm thinking I might hold it down with a spring so if it backfires it will release a bit of pressure too.

Not if it flows air in along the axial direction at the front and out at the other end. Of course there is a small inwards radial component to the flow but its mainly axial. There is a steel canister all around the radial outer surface of the element impeding air flow in that direction.
If it is the air filter that I am thinking of with the end capped at the trumpet end I am seeing all the air enter through the radial surface and exit through the axis. Making the air flow somewhat of a right angle or two
