Alternate alternators to M Marelli in '95 GEMS
Noticing some bearing noise in the alternator and charging voltage barely getting to 14V @ 1800RPM on a charged, new battery with no extra loads on.This may be contributing to episodic GEARBOX FAULT on the message centre and failure to progress sometimes.
So, I am looking at the Bosch alternator I just pulled out of the VY Commodore and not seeing too many obstacles to a swap.
Before I do a trial fit:
a) Is there any other preferred swap in a GEMS engine (given the price and reliability of the MM)?
b) I heard rumourings that the set point on a MM in the GEMS is only 14V anyway - sounds too low to me.
c) Do I chase bearings, brushes and regulator, and fix up the Marelli?
TIA
Steve

There is no really easy swap, there is a 120amp version available though
Mine has a 150 amp alternator which is apparently off a classic and it seems to work fine though I get an "alternator fault message"
