P38A Drawer set up

In fact now I remember. Me and the misses to be (early days in our courtship) slept in my 95 P38 after "A Day on the Green".

Not only did we sleep, I think we also managed some drunken fumbling as well (ahh those carefree days pre-kids). :cool::twisted:

I guess it's the old question of how do you adapt a platform successfully for functions for which it was not necessarily designed. The D3/D4 shape is probably a bit more practical in this regard. And... the Defender screams "modification":D

In the late 70's the hatchback Torana came with an optional tent fitting which covered raised hatch and was secured under the floor enabling the vehicle to be used for sleeping.

Has got me thinking that a similar "hood" would offer some flexibility on the rear of the P38...

Sometimes however a closed vehicle may be preferable for security purposes... hmmm

On a practical note, a simple tent design like the Torana one might work ok with the P38 tailgate...

With the back seats removed there's tons of room to stretch out, would easily accommodate a 6 footer not that I need to worry about that :)

Google "Truck Tent", they have a heap of fun stuff in the states, but mainly for utes. Mrs bought me a couple of "bum" tents (what I call them) back from the USA a few years ago. One for her Cruiser and one for my P38. They wrap around and over the rear with the tailgate open (up and down). Have used one of them once.

There is also a cheap alternative RV Awning available from Rays outdoors for about $50 from memory. Have one of them too but very light weight and not so good for heavy weather or extreme conditions. It's permanently in back of the P38 but rarely gets set up... twice I think.

CBF (can't be ****ed) is my camping motto of the last few years... the less mucking around with gear the more time for beer!!!

Well you would'nt believe it, I was just finishing off the carpeting of the very last section of fridge slide when I realised that if I shift everything over to drivers side I could probably retain rear passenger seat instead of losing all rear seats! It had not occured to me before as I was planning on fitting an awning to passenger side of The Fantom.
Swapping the drawer section is easy but it meant I would have to build another fridge slide to suit drivers side due to wheek arch placement.
So I re -installed rear passenger seat first to see how this may effect sleeping legroom to find it was perfect. Beacaus it is much narrower I can still stretch out into centre of vehicle if I need to. It also means that the drawer setup does not block the subbie in the back also, another bonus!
So I got into making a new fridge slide tonight, all cut & partly carpeted will finish tomorrow. Once completed I will take some pics & post up.

Hi Hoges I'm not 100% finished but very close so will post up some pics for you. Hope you like! I'm pretty happy with result so far. You will probably notice in pics slight step in floor but I have not finished there yet I am almost finished that too! I am just gluing last piece, should get chance to complete it tomorrow.:)
