    EKA Lockout, Engine disabled. Help!!

Hi all, new to this and i am just seeing if anyone can help me with EKA lockout, Engine disabled dramas. My battery died and thought i would buy a new one. Took old one out and replaced with Century battery. Went to start car and messages came up on dash. Have EKA code provided by previous owner. Indicator on guard flashes on four turns to lock then go to enter EKA but no further flashes and door locks dont pop up on completion of code entry. Not sure if there is another problem. Door lock/ barrel doesnt spring back to centre as does in some you- tube vids. Unsure what to do and any assistance/ advice would be grateful. Only had car for 6 months and trying to get roadworthied. Love the P38. Ps is there any mobile mechanics in Western suburbs, Melbourne area. Thanks in advance, Ash.

Firstly thanks for reply. When i turn ignition on i get windows not set etc then when i go to start it comes up as engine disabled, press remote or enter code. Have tried to enter code but something is not right. Do i have to sync fob and how do i do that have heard i have to hold lock button then lock and hold for approx. 3 seconds then same with unlock. Remote was working prior to battery change. TIA. Ash.

Is it possible it's just the fob has lost sync?
If the car does not recognise the key, it won't start.
Try to resync the fob first before playing with the EKA code.
The windows not set is an easy fix, they just need to be moved all the way down and up again until you get the window set message, including the sunroof, happens everytime the battery is disconnected.

    Range Rover P38 MkII 1994 - 2002
    Synchronision procedure

On vehicles up to 1997, re-synchronisation is achieved by locking or unlocking the driver’s door using the vehicle key and then with the key still in the door immediately pressing the button on the remote handset. The BeCM monitors the condition of the driver’s door CDL switch to initiate the re-synchronisation.

On vehicles from 1997, friendly resynchronization was introduced on vehicles with passive immobilisation. A remote handset that is not synchronised to the BeCM will automatically be re-synchronised when the key is inserted in the ignition without using the vehicle key or Emergency Key Access (EKA) procedure. The re-synchronisation uses a pick-up coil in the remote handset and a passive coil located around the ignition barrel. The passive coil provides a signal for the remote handset to transmit an unlock signal to remobilise the vehicle.

Hope that is of some help.

Hi Peter, have tried to sync key both ways. Have set the windows as well. Turned ignition on and engine disabled press remote or enter code still comes up. Alarm light on dash is still flashing. Am going to try leaving key in ignition for a while and see what happens. Even changed batteries in fob to see if that would help. No luck yet. After setting windows no other messages on dash apart from engine disabled etc.

When you press the remote, does it lock or unlock the doors, or do anything else?

I like to try the simple stuff before we think about locked becms.

Do you have a second fob? Try that, but dont take battery out. My understanding is that if you take a battery out of fob you need to resinc it.

The windows not set are a trivial issue.

Wind a window down quick - in case things get worse and you close a door and everything locks!

I'm wondering what would happen if you use the key to lock the vehicle old style (not superlock) and then unlock it. Then try to start. If that works resinc the key.

    Again, leave a windows down!!!!

Another thought, my fobs are very susceptible to radio interference, try using the fob near the arial in the rear window.

Is the EKA code valid for the vehicle? Was it in the handbook on card?

Hi once again.... i dont have second fob only got one with vehicle. Have set windows which isnt a problem. Have been using key to open car as fob wouldnt work even before changing batteries. Only drivers door unlocks, front passenger knob wont even come up with hand but rear passenger will unlock by hand from inside car. Tried both ways to sync fob as stated by Peterh. Doesnt sync when inserted in the ignition as a 1997 apparently should. Also tried to use fob near back window just then as well as under guards etc. When i installed new battery had slight spark from positive the car beep from what sounds like near dash area ( slightly muffled, could be stereo). Apparently last owner had issues at some point and wrote EKA down in book. Have tried to get on to land rover customer service but gave up after 15 mins on hold. Got the number of Melb Land Rover reception. Car is in really good condition for age and has been regularly serviced by land rover. Thanks for replies Fellas as a new owner im slowly learning. Love the p38!!!

Can you lock the vehicle with the key from the outside? (sounds like I'm repeating myself but please with a window down)

I'm beginning to think the door lock assembly could be failing. - this "can't unlock other doors" except from the inside tells me that you are not actually unlocking the vehicle properly. And thus won't resinc or un-disable.

Ooh.... and P38a ownership is a real love / hate relationship.
I can move from enjoying a drive for a drive sake and not wanting to go home - to take it in the top paddock and burn it in minutes!
