    Rangie at Work

    G'day All,

I have just joined, we have 2 P38's 1996 both the 4.0, one on coils which I use around our mixed farm at Sassafras in Tasmania and another one in far better order which is the flash one for highway driving. My son in grade 7 is learning to drive in in the farm spec one and going very well.

The flash one is in excellent condition for its age but I need some advice on the best place to source airbags, as well as a kit for the compressor and a diagnostic tool to clear a hard fault. Recently I rebuilt the block with a kit from the UK but freight was a kicker.

When I figure out how to upload some photos on this old Mac I revived today I will, but for now adios.

    Cheers

    Hi RFB, welcome aboard!
Wow what a way to lean to drive, in a P38!

I'm in Melbourne and I always get my parts from British car components, they are very knowledgeable about all things P38.
There is probably somewhere in Tas that will stock P38 parts though.

For diagnostics, I have a Faultmate extreme, which I've had for quite a while now.
I recently saw this which is a low cost option, looks to be fairly comprehensive, I've never used it myself though.
    EAS Unlock V4

For EAS problems, RSW solutions have a free program you can run on your laptop, you need to make up a special cable (instructions are provided).
There is also a place in SA called Triumph Rover spares, they have a lot of P38 second hand parts if needed and freight quickly.

I hope that is of some help,
    Pete.

    Air Bag Supplier

    Hello RFP
Are you like me new to P38 ownership?

Mine is a bit sad, some bits of plastic inside have seen heavy hands on them. The air con works well but only comes out of the windscreen vents. Outside looks reasonable from a distance, close up reveals a few small dents and scratches and the usual roof clear coat damage. Motor and gearbox has 320,000km and runs quite well. I have been working on the EAS and have improved it, need to fit rear sensors.

Some of this below might have some thing of interest.

Air bags seem to come in all prices and quality.
I was going to purchase overseas when I wanted a set, but after a friend of mine was not pleased with the quality of the ones he imported so I decided to buy in Australia.

Some years ago I purchased 2 for inside the rear springs of my over weight Defender 130 from Air Bagman in Qld. I was pleased with the service and quality so I purchased a set for my P38 from them Feb 2023.

Air bag suspension for LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER P38A 94-02 – Airbag Man Suspension These are genuine Dunlop.

Although they now say they are “Research and Development Only” I filled in their contact form saying what I wanted and that I live in rural Qld and they did sell to me.

Land Rover Parts Seal kits and a little bit of other stuff for P38. Quality appears to be good.

https://4x4airseals.com/product/air-dryer-repair-kit Desiccant and seals. I purchased 2 of the desiccant to spread the cost of freight. I have been told I wasted my money and cheaper alternative are available.

How old is your dryer desiccant? There is a line of thought that once the desiccant starts to go to powder it can be taken all through the system. Not something you want with a reconditioned valve block.
Or is the block you mentioned the engine block?

I have purchased a similar model to the Faultmate that Peter has, mine is a Nanocom. Same company Black Box
Products - NCOM05 Range Rover P38 GEMS (Petrol to 1999) kit - NANOCOM Diagnostics
Expensive but seems to have good reviews and I am slowly learning more of what it can do.

FCR - Range Rover P38 1995-2001 - BLACKBOX SOLUTIONS LTD for Faultmate

I used the free program from RSW Solutions as it came with the car when I bought it. I think it is good and is useful.
