Question P38 & RRC air springs swappable???

Had a bag come loose twice while out in the sticks over easter. The RHR popped off at the top from the mount, the first time a bump made it re seat itself....... go figure, and it pumped itself back up. Didnt know this was the problem at the time, but again while out and over terrain not too rough, it let go again.
As we were only 15 minutes from the farm, headed back and pulled out all the jacks we had to see what went wrong and alas there it was, one bag fully intact not connected to the top.

Went to put it back on, easy enough 10 minute job, but the rubber hasnt perished, but just seems to have lost its tension around the seal ring.

The thought occurred to me to maybe upgrade the assemblies to longer travel or preferably wider diameter to change the rate.

I have seen the Arnott Gen III available for Classics but dont really need to go that far expensewise. Money is better off focussed on a new Yamaha 750 Raptor atm but need to at least do the bags.

Has anyone ever tried using P38 bags on a RRC as I believe they are longer and wider than the Classic???

    Cheers

    Andrew

As far as i Know the bag's arent interchangable. I am in the process of retrofitting bags to my 93RRC. I have a 2" spring lift and wish to maintain the
current ride hieght while in the standard position.

I am having some spring perches made up. They are being machine from steel by Callcott and Downey in KAl. They will be bolted to the chassis's spring mounts, and the bags will be retained by the standard lips. The intent is to move the top of the bags down 60mm on the rear
    and 50mm on the front.

If my sums are correct the bag will be fully compressed when the diff housing reaches the bump stops. The extra 50/60mm of hieght "should" help with the droop without dislodging the bags.

Dont be concerned that the bags appear loose on the cones. The pressure in the bag creates a tigher seal and prevents leaks.

Here is a sketch of what im talking about:

the bags are the same, but the end pieces the bellows go onto are different. The air hose connections are in different places and foul. The mounting pins are slightly different. From memory the P38 has slightly larger diameter end pieces. The actual air bag bellow how ever is the same in OEM form.

Got a picture of the two side by side somewhere if you like, as I bought P38 springs to put on my classic by mistake, and kept them for the P38 anyways.

    Cheers guys,

Just had KRudd's little deposit.......... cash one......... arrive this week so this and a look at the steering box might be in order me thinks....

Arnotts obviously do replacements, but does anyone know if Contitech (Continental) or Firestone etc do them?? I have bazillions of airspring catalogues, but all are truck and Prime products only and there seems to be very little available for automotive applications.

    pdf's greatfully accepted!!

The only problem with your calculation is that the bumpstops can compress almost their full depth under the weight of the car hitting a big bump.
(as unlikely as it may seem by looking at them)

No idea if this is useful, but I remember other people using the site below for good cheap air bags:

    Vehicle Search

The other one I have read people use is the airbag man:

Welcome to Airbag Man Air Bags, Air Suspension, Air Springs

Again, no idea if they are any use or good or not.
