Burn Notice - P38 gets blown up

I was watching Burn Notice last night and one of the extras was a P38. My excitement turned to sadness when she threw a brick through the window and set off a bomb inside the car.

Now here's the amusing thing - the premise was that a motion sensing trigger had been set up to detect any movement in the car so when the driver got in, it would go boom.

If that was my car - the bomb would have gone off long before the driver got back to the car, given all the little adjustments it makes.

Obviously P38s have reached a low value point in the USA where they are now becoming the explosion vehicle of choice.

The motion sensing as I understand it is "volumetric" (sic) ..as described in the LR book...so it's probably a low power microwave device like in the motion detectors for home alarm systems, as distinct for example from the mercury switches which are/were used in some car systems to sense significant vehicle movement (like being towed /rocked / put on to a truck etc).

I'll leave the implications of that for you to ponder

umm..... the plot had a trembler switch hooked up under the seat to set a bomb off..... had nothing to do with the vehicles electronics....
