    D2 SLS Compressor Bipass

I have not seen this on the forum so apologies if this has already been posted

Having just replaced my second SLS compressor I thought it was time to have an emergency kit. Previously there have been threads about adding a T piece to the air lines but I thought that I could simply add a temporary valve to the end of the air line in the situation of a compressor failiure.

The idea is to undo the air bag airlines from the valve block and then screw the airlines into the two separate tyre valves that I prepared, one for each side. Then just connect an external tyre compressor or even a bicycle pump to the valve and pump up that sagging rear end, simple.

I found some brass tubeless valves at a truck tyre shop $10 each X2. Then drilled the opposite end to the valve out with 17/64 (6.8mm) drill bit to a depth of 16mm.

Next the hole was threaded with an 8mm X 1mm tap. Cost $6 from the local Bolt Barn. This is the thread on the ends of the air lines to the air bags.

You then need to chamfer the edge of the hole to accommodate the o-ring on the airline. Not too much and you are done.

This is a photo of the tools and bits, if this does not come through some one may like to tell me where I have gone wrong,

A lathe would be ideal but I did this with just a power drill. A small pointer if you have not worked with brass previously then I suggest that you find a drill bit that has lost its edge a little. The pros sharpen their bits for brass with a very flat angle. A normal drill with a sharp edge will bit in too hard.

I would also suggest covering up the valve block to stop muck getting in if you have to do this.

With the D2 empty apart from a full tank of fuel the pressure in the air line was 65 psi to get it up to height.

Hope this is of some help.
