Quick tidy up of a defer ute

    Hi everyone,
Just introducing my defer i'm doing a tidy up of to get it back to roadworthy and reliable.
A bit of a back story, I've had classic minis for the last few years but looking to get something to use as a tow car and something i can go up to fraser with and have a bit of comfort for everyday.
My first pick was to be a perentie, but after a chance meeting with an aulro member at bunnings i got put onto this one, and bought it that weekend.
Its a 1992 200tdi 110 ute with 190k ks. Its a bit rough so far but is tidying up very quickly.

So far plans are to replace the rusty bits with new bits, a 2 inch lift, and get it roadworthy then improve it as i go.
As i picked it up with a mates cruiser to tow it

A bit of footwell rust, fairly light and wont take much to replace

Stripped off the tray and having a look at the chassis underneath, all in really good nick, has been previously plated over but its all solid.

    After a bit of paint

And is this a factory high lift jack?

Theres a few more pics on my photobucket and ill keep this thread updated.
Looking forward to hearing what you all think.
    Cheers
    Joe

Factory jack, but perhaps not useable with the bullbar and tray - the round fold-down section on jack fits into mating holes in the front of either chassis rail (under stock front bumper) or into the round holes in the rear cross members.

You can buy/make an adaptor for a high-lift jack to fit the standard jacking points on Land Rovers. Also available are hydraulic versions of the standard screw jack.

Should end up a nice truck, very suitable for your purposes and 4wd touring.

I've done a bit more since the last update.
Pictures tell the best story so here we go.
Ripped out the rear suspension, old vs new

    The resulting mini truck

Suspension is a big bore expedition kit with a 2" lift from terrafirma. Hoping they should be beefy enough to take quite a bit of weight lol.

Another update on this. Was heading to the roadworthy test on saturday morning and then this happened.
The clutch slips as soon as boost hits and it rolls to a stop.
Here it is an hour later, being towed by another cruiser.
And then as soon as i got it home

Ive ordered a heavy duty clutch for it and am currently pulling the gearbox out tomorrow morning.

I got it registered yesterday and put 150ks on it so far. No problems other than running out of fuel and a bit of a noise from the diff due to the backlash.
Passed 4 defenders/counties so far and not a wave from any of them so might get the first one soon.
    Cheers,
    Joe
