nearly time for a new bottle of Jacks
small update
Dash is out and i have started to pull the old wiring loom out.. The plan now is to just fit the D2 loom complete into the ute. I started to trace wires but everything is so integrated i would be sure to create a massive headache and prolong the conversion.
Loom is out on the garage floor and started to join the dots :o

its not as bad as it looks (that's what keep i telling myself)
Turns out a D2 tank fits in the D1 chassis... they are fatter in general but fit in the rear of the chassis like a glove. I had to remove the tank guard mounts from the inner section of the chassis and will have to fab up new ones but its not much work.

I am going to do a bit more sound/heat proofing while i have the cab stripped as all the old stuff is either mud soaked all falling apart.

Pedal boxes are almost the same so i will just put the D2 pedal box in the RRC/D1 shell

I have to ask - would it not have been easier just to do a ute conversion on an existing TD5 Disco ?
the ute conversion itself was harder and took a long time. All I am doing is a plug and pray job. D2 are old enough now that new and used parts are reasonably priced. And most of all I all ready own the ute. If I were to buy a running td5 with low ks I would be out of pocket up to 20k and that's without lockers, suspension etc etc

If Mick had known then what he knows know then maybe a vehicle or 2 could have been saved in the process:D .
Only 2 and half cars to make 1/2 a car that's not that bad. Its a perfect example of how the automotive industry reuse parts from different models to save on production costs.
I think might be its last transplant. I look forward to putting a tdv8 in the wife's d2 :p
I am glad i took the carpet out now..
passenger side A\C drain pipe had come loose and for that last who knows how long its been draining into the foot well and caused some bad rust :o so if you own a D1 or D2 is would check the A/C drain plugs. In turn it had rotted out all the the factory sound deadening... in some spots it was still damp which scary as the car has not been out side for 8 months plus.

D2 wiring loom and pedal box fitted. Pedal box wasn't much fun.

I still have to splice in the Doors, ( mirrors, windows and central locking) and front wipers. But I am at the point that i can start to power up the electrics. I invested in some automotive harness cloth tape. Taken the time to re tape most of the looms. makes things nice and neat and easy to work out. Call me crazy but the D2 has a much simpler wiring loom then the D1. It seems the BCU takes out all the clutter from the cab.
