no5 army trailer to camper trailer

hi all,i have just bought a no 5 trailer in top condition for next to nothing, which I will pick up from my bosses farm once I get a pintle hook towball once I get back from holidays to qld late jan,
so the plan is to make a simple frame to hold rooftop tent or camper trailer tent, stabilizers for the rear when parked up,some sort of set to be open rear as a tailgate with slide out kitchen, prob lose a spring or 2 out of the spring pack
anyone who has built one with any good ideas would be much welcome, and any pics on how you have done the frame would be good
anyway I will post pics as I go
    cheers mick

Just a couple of mods you may want to do.

No.5s are unbraked, Series LR track width and have a high centre of gravity, all of which make No.5 unstable at highway speeds. You may want to consider fitting brakes, extending the drawbar (to make backing better) and sling the axle on top of the springs.

If you fit a hydraulic over-ride coupling, you can make the bracket to carry the coupling/master cylinder bolt directly to the original chassis flange extending the drawbar length at the same time.

The Army had a number of modified No.5 that used standard LR brake backing plates and drums, the fire trailer below being one.

As has been said, move the axle over the springs, but dont remove any leaves as it weakens the spring pack. Experience taught me this
