Very interesting. You look to have everything sorted.
What is the capacity, power & torque of this engine?
Thanks, Pickles.

I am a bit daunted with what i have to do to get mine ready in time but still trying! Looking forward to seeing your cummins!Quote:
Great job. So there might be two Land Rovers with Large Diesels at Melrose then?... :)

The Duramax is from a Chevy Silverado around 2005 vintage. It's a common rail 6.6 litre turbo V8 diesel. Horsepower is 360 and 880nm of torque. This is backed up by the 6 speed allison auto that came with the motor. My main concern is how long the front diff will last being original rover one at the moment, but not too concerned at the moment and will upgrade later. I have 35 spline axles for the rear that i will put in later too.Quote:

Fantastic, you've got oodles of power & torque, oodles of "everything" in fact!,...it should be a most rewarding vehicle to drive.
Thanks, Pickles.
Well, can’t say I didn't try to drive to Melrose in the defender. Had Bro and Dad helping me frantically on Easter Friday (and leading up to Easter) but we pulled the pin about Midday as past the point of no return! Thanks (tup39 & Olfella)! I actually drove it up and down the drive way but motor is torque limiting the Trans for some reason and no more than 2000RPM. Got a few DTC’s to sort out and hopefully get a few more gears that just 1st and reverse! I tell you what though it’s got some grunt, I backed it up the ramps so I have heaps of room underneath to work on it and almost spat them through the front tyres! I always used tos select low range with the 300tdi motor so it was easier to idle up, but different story now. I haven’t put much info up on the build as have been too busy working on it! Anyhow, will update this week when I get ½ hour spare with the laptop and down load some photos. I would upload a video, but not sure on how to do that. Hopefully a few filters etc arrive form the USA this week and i can sort out a couple of oil leaks and fuel pressure isssues.
Cheers

IT RUNS
Well,
Just got back from 1st decent drive today and reasonably happy with it. Still got a lot of work to complete the conversion but ended up doing 2000 k's to Wentworth and back home in the last 4 days to see how it would go.
List of stuff to finish
- Wiring- Need to gut the Chev loom so only use what is required
- Cruise control - Keeps wanting to sneak up over 120km/h
- Install tow/haul mode with selector switches for manual mode
- Install different shifter for the auto - Disco 2 one not suitable
- ECU programming - Cant use wide open throttle. Have a few fault codes so may be related to them. Still waiting on goodies from the US so will wait till then.
- Dial in the hydroboost a bit better. Seems to be not enough flow for power steering at low speeds and using brakes at the same time.
- Finish off air intake behind cab. Want to incorporate it into a new tray
- Make a new coolant exp tank.
- Insulate floor where i have removed all existing mats that are U/S.
- Upgrade rear axles for 35spline. Have a set that i was going to use for the other project but might shove these in
- Front Diff? Wait for it to blow up and then dont know what i'll do with it besides through lots of money at it. Maybe D60 option but not sure yet. Want to keep 3.

Even though i cant use wide open throttle, it gets up and boogies. Dont have to have 4 miles of open road to pass a semi anymore! There's a couple of jump ups before Pimba that used to drop speed down to 85k's but now can get booked if not careful.
Crusing speed with the 1.00:1 and 6 speed auto is perfect for my application. 110 km/h it is sitting about 1650 rpm and has heaps of torque just to pull out and overtake without kicking down a gear.
Tight engine bay. Fan cowling is off at the moment as i have been chasing power steering leaks.
