Good point. A quick look indicates that LPG is heavier than air so perhaps just having a breather from below and a vent above will suite? I imagine that since the housing should be sealed to the inside of the vehicle for safety reasons that the only way to get air flow is to have a breather?

When I've finished making myself the guinea pig with the design work, I'll post complete build templates/instructions here.

More than likely I'll never want to go near a rip saw or welder again after I'm finished!

Great idea. I have one big concern though and that is, carrying a LPG cylinder inside a vehicle. Two reasons for this.

(a) They are a big projectile in an accident. Even though a cylinder weighs 9kg at stand still it weighs it weighs a lot more at speed probably around 30kg. That wouldn't be nice hitting you in the back of the head.

(b) I have seen the result of a gas cylinder leaking in a car. The driver was lucky to survive, he had survere burns and the car was blown apart. I never carry gas cylinders in my vehicle for this reason. There is no way I would consider using any sort of fan to try to use any sort of electric fan either.

The topic of safety with LPG is an important one in the design and even though the basic first rough design indicates its going to be closed away in a cupboard the reality will be far from.

Original idea was to have it stored externally and just fitting a hose to it - this is still a possibility and it may even suite simplicity to have it this way, perhaps stored on the swing away depending on legalities.

If it was inside the vehicle, essentially, that compartment would have to be air tight to the interior, well ventilated and resistant to fire/heat. I am hoping to adapt an motorhome/bus concept to it without having to butcher the vehicle too much.

Not sure what size LPG cylinder you are looking at using, and how smart / dumb it might be to put it there, but would it fit mounted externally inside the rear quarter panel on the passenger side?

Then again, that spot is just above the exhaust pipe...
