You are right about the touchups. That is why I was looking around for a "factory" color from well known Aussie cars like Ford or Holden. That way I will be able to get spray cans of touch-up paint in whatever color I choose.

Touch up cans off the shelf rarely match. If you are going for a metallic, how you put it on determines the colour nearly as much as the paint itself.

Walker, How about 'dancing hippo avatar purple' as a colour?

Renault had a purple shade called 'pale grape' back in the late 70's

    Just a thought...

Yea, I had thought about purple Justin, but I just dont feel right driving a purple Rangie. Also I think it would show the scratches a lot.

I am going to try to get a hi res image of the Hippo and get a large sticker made up to go on the B pillar.

As for touch up paint, you can get most colors in spray can from good auto paint stores. You are right they they will not always look the same but we are talking about a Rangie that will be used as a "bush Pig" (or is that Hippo) so exact color matches dont matter too much. I will speak to the spray painter but I will try to stay away from a mettalic color anyway.

Hmm...I was thinking this sort of green...

It would help your blend into the scenery at Toolangi!

    Or how about this...

    A bit too avocado though...

    Or this one...

If you are going green, are you going to go with a green themed name? Just dont go for the Hulk.

If anyone has any suggestions, please put them up.

A good mate of mine James who recently finished his winch truck painted it in the similar Mazda Bright green - and looks fantastic.

    Go for it Adam.

I'd check out the Rustgard range of colours. Easy tp find touch up paint, and it comes in a range of finishes such as smooth and hammertone.

Hey what's a few scratches among friends? And then there is the frequency of the touch ups (every trip?). I mean mine is a LOT younger than yours and it sort of passes muster until you get real close.

Yea, thanks Dave, I think I have pretty much made up my mind...going with the green.

I saw a VE commodore on the road today and it looked great. I think the 2 pics I posted above are actually the same color because there is only one green available in the VE.

I was just going to get it painted in gloss green, but the commodore I saw today looked so good I think I might even go metalic as long as it does not cost a heap more.

And no, there will be no "green themed" name. It will still be "Hippo"!

    Good stuff
I bought some touch up paint for my disco the other day (some grey metallic) custom mixed at Autobarn fro $17 a spray can.

Was a pretty good match as well.

I'm going to use the spray packs from now on - nice & easy.
