I cant believe it has been 6 months since my last post on this thread!

I have been busy with work, but I have also tried to get a little bit more done on the Rangie.

I finally got the LPG conversion installed and it is running straight gas. So I can now start up the engine. I was a bit amazed to find that the engine started first go without a problem. This is a fully rebuilt engine with new liners, HC pistons, conrods, reco heads and new lifters and had never run so I was a bit worried starting it for the first time.

I had some problems initially with low oil pressure, but after a lot of mucking around found out that it was just a faulty guage.

I have also installed the rear lights and made up the bar and recovery point for the back and had the rear window installed.

Next step is to get it sprayed.

Ooops, I forgot. Does anyone know any spray painters in the Ringwood, Croydon, Lilydale area?
I think the major panel beaters are too busy with insurance work to worry about a small spray job and they would probably be too expensive anyway. Just looking for someone small and cheap but will do a good job.

I had always want to spray it in the latest Holden Green color, but after asking around I have been told it is a pearlescent color and way way expensive so I thought I would just try to amtch the color as best as possible in a simple 2 pak. What you think?

I'm used to using the old Dulon acrylics from 25 years of surfboards and that's what I painted my RRC version #2 in and acrylic was the original paint on them. It's red, which is the worst colour for fading, but I gave it 5 coats of clear with a UV inhibitor over the top while it was taped up.

Buffed it for the first time recently (3 years on) and it looks really good.

The advantage of acrylic is that it's dry in 5 mins or less, can buff out scratches from the clear coats easily, re-touching is really easy for mugs, you can wet and dry runs if you paint it yourself, etc, etc.

Does have 30+% lead in the paint solids, but use protection which you should anyway. Old 2 pack isocyanates were worse anyway for health.

    cheers, DL

I can do a lot of things, but painting is not one of them. I plan to get someone to spray the car for me.

It is just running an Imco straight gas system. Performance is ok but nothing fantastic, I have not had it dyno'd so not sure what it is putting out. Maybe one day I will get it done.

After 3 years the end is in sight!

Just a couple more small things to do then I can get it engineered and take it out to play.

    Well done!

Those wheels silver paint or plated? Have thoughts of getting some down the track and getting them electroplated zinc.

    cheers, DL

They are just zinc plated. It does not cover up the imperfections but should last longer than paint and was cheaper than powder coating.
