Mines a Tradesman on My Disco to carry the RTT but I had it built to 1400mm wide so the tent edges were sitting on the outer rails and supported by the inner rails and it still had side rails on it but I have cut them off as it made it hard to open the tent.

The only other problem I have had with it has been harmonic vibrations at around 100kmh cause a terrible sound so I had to weld some RHS along the underside in the middle to support the middle bars and stop them from vibrating.

The rack it self weights less than 50kg (might be less than 30kg's as I can lift it easilly myself without the tent on it but Ive never wieghed it but thats what they told me when I bought it) and the tent is about 60kg's and I have had it on and off for 2 years and still no cracks or anything and I dont find it top heavy at all just fuel economy sufferes a bit in a head wind.

I prefer steel racks for the ease of modification or repair but if you have a MIG set up for alloy or a TIG at your disposal then they would be much of a muchness in that case but the ally racks are a little lighter.

cad is not a hard program to use, i just dont have it its just easier for me to fabricate something if i have a nice drawing to go off, but i am thinking of doing one for my car soon and i'll do that from scratch and draw it up as i go along so then it would be easy to do more all i need to do is find some where that i can but the gutter mounts from cause i dont want to make them not that they would be too hard i spose, does anyone have some close up pick of where the racks mount onto their gutters?

The safety devices rack is something i've wanted since i bought the disco, but i never put anything on the roof so couldn't justify the price just for good looks. that said i did have some rhino racks, never used them so i sold em, and then 2 weeks later needed to put something on the roof.
