Hey Andrew, today is the feast of St. Augustine. Has been for over a thousand years.
(Btw, St. Augustine didn't have any brakes until he was over 30 years old either...)
For wiring looms you can't go past these guys.

Thanks mate.
I have a NOS wiring loom, but I am just missing ancilliary things like the bracket for the alternator, ign switch etc etc.
This is what happens when you rush - little things get left out and you only realise when it comes time to fit them!![]()

Andrew, what you have done in such a short period of time is absolutely amazing.
Your continuing posts are great reading and it was an extra bonus for us to see your latest Landrover. We had one similar many, many years ago and it took us on our first Cape York trip way back in 1978.
It was also great to see Hilton's involvement. Each time we pass his place on the Putty Road, we give him a toot to say g'day...(must call in one day). He's a terrific bloke who has helped us out on many occasion.
Congratulations mate on your wonderful dedication.
Cheers Erich
Thanks for the kind words Erich.
I'm looking forward to getting out there in my old Landy and doing things the way they should be done. I'd love to see some pictures of your travels one day!
I am always amused by how often passing cars toot at Hiltons! He is an absolute legend - and a fantastic mentor who truely belives in investing time and effort into showing younguns like myself the ropes.
Thanks again for the much needed encouragement.![]()

Well Gus probably wont be ready for Expo either at this rate... I haven't touched him in a fair while - I really burnt myself out in the lead up to ABD. Stupid.
Oh well. I am concentrating on having Ambrose looking pretty for Expo, and I might get the Party Bus there on a trailer too!
I have a NOS loom that I was going to modify to use on Gus, but since it is for a solenoid start, generator equipped military model I will keep it for the Party Bus as thats the right one for that vehicle.
I looked at the vinwire looms, but in the end ordered one from Autosparks in the UK. The price was a little less, and the description of the product was much less ambiguous and you could choose options like alternator set up etc. If I was getting a harness for an Australian military model I would go with the vinwire product hands down.![]()

Went through an old phone the other day and found a pic of Gus during his convalescence at the old Sydney house...

I got a package last night - Gus' new wiring loom!
I ordered it on the 15th, and got an email the same day to say they were processing my order. On the 17th I got another email saying they had picked and packed it. On the 22nd (yesterday) I recieved it. Bloody great service!
For my AU$371 I got not only the main loom, but all the other looms aswell (engine, rear lights, alternator etc) That was less VAT and including delivery to my door via air mail.
The wiring is cloth covered, which is not ideal even though it is period correct. I would have rathered a plastic loom for practicality. Then again, the original one lasted almost half a century so I'm sure this one will be fine.(even if I can't see the colours after a few years)
I used Autosparks and can recommend them to anyone.Great website, easy to use and intuitive. Great service, great product.

Ah you'll be a sparky before we know it. Well done, glad to here some good news coming from the the Shonkster garage. Thanks for the tip, I'd love to rewire Olute when I get the new engine (one day!).
Actually I didn't find the electrickery that hard (except for that bit when I nearly cooked Scruby's dash :-( ) just take your time and remember - multimeter is your friend.
Multimeter IS my friend... especially when it is Black Bills multimeter, and he is using it!
I will have to do some labelling, so it is easier to put in. I also haven't 100% worked out which looms are for what yet, so I will have to suss that out.
The Autosparks website is easy.
Click your model (Series 2). Select W/B (SWB ). Select motor (2.25). Alternator or Genesaurus? (Alternator). Click. Pay. Recieve. 1 week.![]()
