I went to drain my steering box the other day, only to discover that I couldn't for the life of me get the level plug out!

I ended up removing the whole side plate off the steering box!

I have since tried heating the plug, dousing it in WD40, freezing it...

No matter what I do - the damn thing won't budge! I might just have to get a new side plate off a wreck - one with a plug that moves...

I have also put most of the wiring in situ, and am slowly working through and connecting it all up. Being cautious though - electrickery isn't my thing.

Ordered some new bits the other day - inlcuding a new ignition switch to replace the cooked one...

I am going on holidays to Fiji in Feb and with various other things to organise (including 3 year anniversary and Mrs Shonkys 21st) I can't see me getting huge amounts done until mid March.

I'll do bits and pieces here and there but the $$ are getting tight.

    HAAAAAAAAA!

    It is off!

Someone () was in the garage after dinner the other day and decided to have one last crack at it, by putting the head of the plug in the vice and belting the plate with the hammer, after heating it up with the torch...

"Someone" gave it a belt or two with the hammer before realising that he wasn't wearing any shoes, and holding the vice between his feet with the red-hot part. If it were to fall out this person would get burnies on his tootsies!

Lucky I had left my welding gauntlets lying around and so the lazy, reckless "someone" pulled them on over his feet...

And after a few good hits it finally let go!

Yaay! ... Oh, um... I mean - tsk tsk for unsafe work practises...

I find that angle a bit disturbing now that I know that those things are legs!

Anyway - let me know when you want me to come and fix Gus's wiring up for you, ok?

That is not the level plug - that is the pitman shaft end-play adjuster.
