Here's photos of my 'Mongrel' Snorkel install I did today. I call it a mongrel as the body and airbox attachment are from a TJM Airtec and the head is an ARB Safari
I picked the body up from my local TJM dealer for $200 as it was missing the head and had a few marks on it from delivery. The head was obtained from ebay (I love that place). So including a few items such as 65mm, 90mm & 92mm hole saws, my snorkel cost $320 fitted. Considering a fitted quote from ARB was $735, I reckon I've done alright
I've removed the LH front wheel, second battery, inner arch guard & airbox.
Placed the template on the engine bay wall. Centre punched and drilled a 3mm pilot hole for the 92mm hole saw.
Set up the template for the outer guard. Centre punched and drilled 3mm pilot holes for the 90mm hole saw and 6x 10mm mounting holes. It's a strange feeling walking up to a body panel of your pride and joy with a drill in your hand
Engine bay hole done. I made a little mistake here as I sprayed primer and took the photo before realising that I hadn't cleaned up the hole with sandpaper. So I went back and did it properly
Guard ready for fitting the snorkel body. Measured about eight times before starting this stage
Altered the airbox by cutting off the old trumpet attachment and mounting lugs at the bottom. Cut the side entry with a 65mm hole saw.
Fitted the airbox and airbox attachment together with the foam sealing rings in between. Mounted in the engine bay and attached it to the plate at the back of the second battery tray.
Fitted the snorkel body and tightened the bolts up under the wheel well. Put the air filter back in & Re-attached the air intake hose.
Attached the mounting plate to the pillar and adjusted the upper body. Fitted and tightened the Safari head.
Done, feels good considering my ability with toolsAnd then I went inside for a crownie
I can buy another 8 cartons with the money I've saved

Well done. Should try to fit one to a Defender with ABS - a real challenge.

Sweet job mate. If you move that power steering resvoir, you can fit a 100ah deep cycle up the front corner. I have a fifty there, and will soon be moving it to near where your ABS module is. (No ABS = more space). You could fit a rangie drum filter in there and get rid of that box if you wanted, might free up a bit of room.
I've had an N50 in there for the last couple of months, but am having the PS reservoir bracket extended on wednesday so I can fit my N70 75ah deep cycle in. That'll be big enough for now.
