    B92's Diesel Mercedes + S/WVO

I'm aware it isn't a Land Rover but I know of at least four people who might be interested. There will be a info on a vegetable oil system later down the track.

Started six weeks of holidays today and I basically plan on cleaning it up and getting it RWC. It most certainly will not be concourse condition!

Bought it like this - its a 1981 300TD (Five cylinder IDI NA diesel). Water pump had failed leading to an overheat. Apart from that, a missing fan shroud and a smashed tail light it was complete. (Complete with oil leaks, an headlight oil leak and some rust)

So far I've put a new water pump and viscous coupling in, new exhaust box and mounts, and automatic transmission fluid. This was the fluid that came out

So with the new water pump and trans fluid it is driving, not badly either, but it lopes at idle - lots of pressure coming into the cooling system, diagnosis is head gasket.

I was surprised that a bit of polishing revealed pretty good paintwork under all that oxidisation.

New shroud - didn't have one when I got it - is it imperative to have a cowl for the cooling system to work properly?

When everything is finished, I'll fit the new crowning glory to the bonnet

Might see if I can contact this guy about his veg oil set up, goes bloody well.

Starting on the headgasket replacement next week. Then its tyres, brakes, and hopefully a roadworthy certificate!!

Did you flush the transmission or just refill it?

I had the cooler lines off in order to remove the radiator to fit the cowl, so as well as just dropping the sump plug, the cooler and lines drained too. I'm happy enough with that - might drain and refill again after its done a few kms.

LOL! The rear SLS keeps leaking down, looks like a D2. Comes up nicely when started though, another thing to add to the list
