Thank you David, and everybody else. I can't tell you how much I appreciate being back in Australia, and to be posting back here. And delightfully surprising to see that people still follow this thread Yep, it's been a long year, but looking forward to spending a lot fo time in the outback, and clearing my head again.

Great to hear you want to carry on, be good to know your route so maybe some of us can meet up with you in various parts of the country, in the outback or the city.

    Hi Mike,

Good to see you back in the saddle, I have just started kitting out my 6x6 defender for a big trip in 4yrs time so have read through this thread in its entirity!

As well as raising money for the charities obviously very close to your heart (and i am sure there arent many people on here who havent been touched by cancer at some stage), if you want to get involved with projects as you travel ("do good as you go") maybe get in touch with these guys:
    http://www.themuskokafoundation.org/

I was pointed in their direction on ExpeditionPortal and have set the ball rolling for working with them myself.

Good luck fixing the truck back up!

    David

I was just wondering the other day how you were getting on with your project and trip.

Sad to hear about the reasons for the delay but really happy to see you getting on with it again.

Best of luck and best wishes - I'll continue to watch and learn

Just came accross this thread after lurking on here for a few years now. Mike, I'm really sorry to hear the heartache you've had over the last 12 months, I'm glad your back in the saddle and still looking to do what many of us dream. Not sure where you are at the moment, but please keep posting. I feel like I'm reading a good novel and someone has ripped out the last chapter! My selfishness aside, good luck with trip.

98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road.
The other 2% made it home.

Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.

    Mike,
I have just read the entire thread from start to finish. What a fantastic job you have done transforming your Defender into a tourer.
You have certainly developed some very useful skills.
A pity about the engine failing, but from what I have read in the thread re Failed Engine, and the work you have done to date, you will be on the road again soon.
    All the best.

Woah - Amazing thread and build! I just found it while trying to plan my own world adventure.

I love the way you have done this - all on your own - work it out and make it yourself. I hope that you are living out your dream sir and on the road.
