Alpine Window - rust repairs with pics

I posted a thread sometime ago about Alpine window fixing (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...t-how-fix.html). Now my bro had to do his one (only right side) and took some photos for me so I can put them up here (and so I can pull my finger out and do mine as well - although hopefully not as bad nick as this!! ).

The pics are self explanatory, but he said that the best thing to do which he didnt until after the pics was to remove the inside plastic cover to allow better access to the inside of the roof panel.

    Time taken:
    • Remove the alpine window - about 3min
    • Remove internal plastic cover - 10 min
    • He used zinc plated sheet that he bent by hand using a vice and a length of angle to get the right shape. Time taken here depends on work required. He is a welder by trade so he welded the sheet on. He will take it to a pannel shop to do the finishing off and re-paint the roof.
    • Replace the alpine window - 10 min

On the topic, does anyone know a good pannel beaters/painters that my bro can talk to about the roof (he is in east Melb)

I just had a look at mine, and yup, both sides have rust, but not to the point of welding a new piece. So my advice to you is, if you have ANY signs, such as bubling paint, rust stain or anything, DO THE REPAIRS NOW! Else they will end up being as bad as the pics above!

All I did was sand back, use a kill rust product (all three stages im using), then ill place back the rubber seal but with windscreen silicon in the grooves.
